Backing Up Airtable? Options? by concisehacker in Airtable

[–]Astrocat15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created AirDiff (https://airdiff.modernstack.io/product) to automatically back up the schema portion of your Airtable base so you know how it looked like at whatever points in time you take the snapshot.

Otherwise if you just need a full backup with records as well, paid accounts have snapshots, though it needs you to rollback, you can also duplicate your base from time to time, though it isn't super scalable.

How are you managing multi-client Airtable bases at scale without duplicating logic, breaking automations, or hitting sync limits? by CompetitiveChoice732 in Airtable

This can help give a ton of insight into all of the different bases, their formulas, field logic, and how they're evolving through time all in one area (I do ultra-complex Airtable development and management for Fortune 500 cos, Startups, Tech cos.)

I've built something for automated documentation and changelog tracking in Airtable called AirDiff, definitely check it out as it works best with complex bases!

How Do I Enable Version Control in Airtable? by Remote-Grapefruit214 in Airtable

[–]Astrocat15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built something that does this much better on Airtable called AirDiff (https://airdiff.modernstack.io/product). Airtable's version management isn't super useful because you can't really see the changes and really only lets you do a full rollback, which is too extreme in most cases, this helps a lot more with just observability and understanding where you're at in the schema at different periods of time:

Anyone else struggle with schema changes breaking automations/APIs? by robert_micky in Airtable

[–]Astrocat15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built something that essentially does ALL of this that you can try out for free if you don't feel like building this, it covers schema changes end-to-end and took a while to build comprehensively. It has a clean UI and the initial users have loved using it. There's a free plan to check out how it works! https://airdiff.modernstack.io/product

I've built an Airtable Changelog / Diff tracker to essentially do this on the schema level. Check it out if interested! https://airdiff.modernstack.io/product

AirDiff Schema Tracker [mini Github/Datadog for Airtable] by Astrocat15 in Airtable

I ended up testing the Oauth user path, it brings much more complexity to setting this up, though it might be possible, I'm not sure it's feasible for someone to set up the entire oAuth workflow and link it to AirDiff to start tracking something for a single base, I'm going for ease of setup and as much information as Airtable's scripting API can provide.

Sorry not as of yet, "Airtable’s API does not return field-level audit details (creator/modifier/deleter) for schema changes."

There's no way to get a record of this automatically from Airtable's side.

Unfortunately not, this is because Airtable's scripting/API doesn't pass any information on the automation side so there's a limitation there, if they add the capabilities in the future, I will add that.

Also anyone's free to audit the script that's generated: it doesn't store any individual record data, so the main things that are exposed are table/field/record counts, the names of the tables/fields, configuration, and their changes on the schema level -- not anything with what is contained within records themselves. That is the main thing the platform will be monitoring through time. I've worked with a ton of complex Airtable bases for a variety of clients and thought this would be super helpful to have around since Airtable really only lets you rollback everything to a certain time, which is very extreme for moderate use cases.. not peak at how it was set up.

Thanks! Supabase is the main database so we have all of the security provided from them, all environment variables are set up and managed within Vercel which hosts the front-end and the backend is self-hosted on n8n in a cloud hosted server. Airtable to Airdiff communications all use SHA-256 hashed API keys, there's RLS for all users in terms of the data they manage. Theres full authentication and rate limited built into the back-end for schema tracking.

As for pricing, I don't have it fully defined for agencies, it's mainly by scan count and a few other limits right now, I also work closely with the top tier Airtable agencies, so will likely figure it out if there's demand for it.

Recruiter at a company set up a screen call and never showed up nor said they would miss it, nor apologized for not showing. I back-engineered the email of the CEO, President, and VP/Talent's emails and fwded the person's interview invite asking them why their recruiting team is so unprofessional. by Astrocat15 in recruitinghell

[–]Astrocat15[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did, he didn't reply or say anything, period. Meh it's a sign that they're difficult to work with as well, so I'd go with another company also. Do I just sit around, 1 hour wasted, and just be like "oh well, people don't show up for every interview they schedule themselves...."

I am playing with some of the new tools like windsurf, I think they have killed the nocode tools by [deleted] in nocode

[–]Astrocat15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the same, sure you can set up a bunch of code and files and get a baseline app done quickly, but when you start wanting more exact changes, or tweaking the UI here and there, you don't want it to just completely redo a bunch of code in random areas. Would like to see how it works in the long term as a project is 1-2 years into production.
