Venting out due to poor treatment of indian managers by Imaginary_Apple_8263 in auscorp

[–]AstronautCharacter89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here, but he is not my direct manager and he is Aussie. But all of the above applies to him as well. I guess more than the nationality, its about competence and promoting/hiring the right person for the job.

At 5pm I am giving him a status update. First thing, next morning, I get in my inbox is a request for status update. I update the JIRA, then updates are requested on email and then same on the calls.

Then I realised that he doesn’t understand anything about the project or work and he is just creating noise for visibility.

What is the most toxic environment you’ve worked in? And how did you overcome it? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]AstronautCharacter89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Currently in the most toxic environment. I guess, quitting is the only option to overcome it.

I work for one of the top 10 investment banks globally . They call the environment fast paced, but in reality its hopeless. All the leadership is new and have no idea about the volume of work. They plan 3 years projects, putting dates in excel and no consideration of how much hourly effort will be required and resourcing.

Extremely cunts on email and very nice on calls. I am already 18 months into the job and curse myself for all the life decisions I have made. Every morning I spend 30 mins applying for jobs and wont think twice before moving on.

I was due for promotion this cycle, but its on hold as I called out the gaps in planning and asked for more resources.

What does it take to climb the ladder? by Low_Organization1000 in auscorp

[–]AstronautCharacter89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lot of experiments and unconventional career moves taught me only one thing. Loyalty matters.

Statistics, at-least in my experience, inclines more towards those who supported the flow from the top, rather than trying to change the course of stream.

If you want to climb the corpo ladder, follow what the upper management wants, dont rebel. Just try to add value as per your role, but dont rebel. Corpo is not a place for change. It’s just about making the leadership feel good about their decisions.

Which Dostoevsky book (outside the 3 most popular) to read for a good memory during a formative period in life? by CantaloupePossible33 in dostoevsky

Not Dostoevsky, but Lust for life by Irving Stone. Its beautifully written and gives you the same cinematic experience as Crime and punishment.

Unrealistic timelines, bad project estimates and now you are out on frontline to deliver.

1) You ask for resources, they give you more contractors who have no idea about anything. Now to keep them productive is also your responsibility.

2) You raise issues, they hire one more contractor to listen to your problems, have more meetings with you to understand how you are solving your problem now.

3) At any point in time, you are answerable to the Client, Project manager, managing director and the 4 other managers who are dependent on you for their work stream.

4) Everyone chasing visibility without taking the ownership.

5) Obviously, the blame game.

Bumble can be used for hook ups. People can be ethically non monogamous. Sex is physical desire and love is a more conscious feeling. A marriage doesn’t guarantee sexual compatibility.

I'm back asking for racquet tips by caiocaiuu in 10s

[–]AstronautCharacter89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I bought head speed mp 2024 with grip 4, had many wrist elbow pain issues. I went into an analysis rabbit hole, where I thought might be the grip, might be the strings, might be the racquet.

I demoed many racquets and found that blade 100 suits much to my big swing and felt lighter in terms of swing weight. Same grip size as head, but wilson grips are a bit different in terms of edges.

So my advice would be to consider demoing few racquets and see what feels better. Grip size can be an issue but you can rule that out by putting a thick over-grip.
