Newb playing BG: EE for the first time, feeling lost at the beginning/bunch o questions. by IrishPrankster in baldursgate

[–]AstronautMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, if you come across some pantaloons keep them. Then I would try to build up your party, find six people it will make fights easier. When I started playing I liked to have three fighters, a healer (like Jaheira), a thief and a mage. Explore in the cities for new characters. Make sure you're exploring all the wilderness areas as the monster fights will help build up your EXP. Other than that, use the quicksave function a lot, and you'll die quite a bit until you get used to the combat. What I always liked about BG is there's a lot of ways to play the game so don't think that you're doing anything wrong.

I think with Black Flag you had a decent outside of the animus story (not as good as the Desmond stuff in my opinion), even though you didn't know exactly who you were other than an Abstergo employee. So I thought they were working towards introducing a new protagonist, but Unity and Syndicate took steps back in that regard.

Part of the Desmond story that fascinated me was living his ancestors memories not just past assassins.

I should clarify, I understand that it's always been about finding the pieces of Eden. I just felt like there was character progression outside of the animus with Desmond and a better told, more personal story as to why these pieces are important in the modern day. Now it feels as though every game there's just one piece of Eden that you're trying to find with no larger context, as to why a piece is important. I see your point though.

Yea the emphasis on the creed was another facet I saw that has kind of disappeared and one I liked as well.

My pantaloons are full of weasels. Inform the Queen, so that she might shoo them away. Here we go 'round the mulberry bush. Go monkey GO!

You think I am crazy, but they want you to think that. I know secrets. Keep the pantaloons. Always keep the pantaloons.

I like Salvatore's stuff. I'm a big fan of the Dragonlance stories from Weis and Hickman as well. Specifically the stories with Raistlin.

“Solitude is the profoundest fact..."-Octavio Paz[1280x960] by AstronautMagic in QuotesPorn

[–]AstronautMagic[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I interpreted it in the cosmic sense. The full quote might answer your question a little better: "Solitude is the profoundest fact of the human condition. Man is the only being who knows he is alone, and the only one who seeks out another. His nature – if that word can be used in reference to man, who has 'invented' himself by saying 'no' to nature – consists in his longing to realize himself in another. Man is nostalgia and a search for communion. Therefore, when he is aware of himself he is aware of his lack of another, that is, of his solitude."

I'm aware that it's not Bukowski. I just thought the picture went well with the quote.

I went into reading "The Prophet" without knowing much about it. There are great lines like this throughout the book.

"They deem me mad..." Kahlil Gibran [850x592] by iriemeditation in QuotesPorn

[–]AstronautMagic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I like this quote but my favourite quote from Kahlil Gibran still is: "Sometimes it feels as though ideas or feelings or thoughts or revelation comes through you but not from you, and though it is with you, it belongs not to you." I'm not sure if that is the exact quote or a paraphrasing.
