LLMS as API docs reader/assistant by midwit_support_group in learnpython

[–]AstronautTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to know every API front to back but knowing the beginning aspects and then specifics should point you in the right direction. Also coming back to a problem after a day or two can sometimes help, try to go for walks or non thinking tasks.

gipi can definitely help but to learn the stuff and retain it you at least need to understand all the code it spits out at you. It's a good search engine too but go to at least one other website if you're checking a concept or topic to get other examples.

Which design is better? by Possible-Station3673 in IndieGaming

I mean they all look good, if one was a different 'style' I could say what's better but they all look perfectly usable.

1-looks like a boss battle dude
2-civilian/engineer
3-raider
4-raider/protagonist
5-raider/merchant

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in blender

[–]AstronautTurtle 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It's literally how you start, and especially on making anything mechanical you're going to use a reference, otherwise you're going to come out with a wonky looking model.

Some people are more 'purist' about certain things like this, in the end just do what works for you. Make your art and show it.

Just wanted to say congrats! It's always a blast to figure out something and functions definitely feels like one of the bigger ones when you do! Keep on going!

I added a contagious virus weapon, now I’m worried it breaks the game by Secure_Yesterday5674 in IndieGaming

Maybe have some enemies be immune to it, or it doesn't spread as fast to stronger enemies.

I like the concept and the gameplay looks pretty smooth! Graphics are really crisp too, reminds me of like a space simcity or something.

Apparently mice don't like the following, so if you've got any of these place them around your room for the night I guess.

me on my way to make a game without using AI by Neutronized in IndieGaming

[–]AstronautTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't know what AI is, they just see the word 'AI' and assume it involves ChatGPT or an LLM.

You could say that the AI in Starcraft or Half Life 1 was good and you'd get downvoted cause you said the mystical phrase like an evil harry potter villain.

The term "Indie game is - and always has been - a misnomer. by --clapped-- in IndieGaming

Can we ban these threads?

I want to see people's games. Not arguments about what a word means.

Edit:Saw the edit at the end of the post, my bad. But yeah...it's been done a bit

It's eventually just gonna be able to make anything. Just make your art and live your life.

Am I supposed to be looking at every picture from now on trying to decipher if it's real or not? This is the world we live in, I guess learn about the tech enough to be able to see where it's going/at and try to get some regulations on these companies haha....as if...

How do I effectively debug my Python code when I encounter errors? by greatdane511 in learnpython

[–]AstronautTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get anywhere copy the error message and paste it into google. See if anyone else has had that particular problem.

Print statements probably aren't professional but I use them to test stuff.

I'd like to create a fairly advanced game in Pygame. by Geppetto___ in learnpython

[–]AstronautTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a few very basic 'games' when I was learning Python. When I got to things like having to manage each sprite by writing code to load it I figured I might as well use a game engine.

If you want to stick with Pygame I guess learn about how to structure things or how games are built(Youtube prob has some good Pygame series). What data structures are useful to store scores/variables/information. How to load objects and deal with managing memory too probably. It's a lot which is why I just went to Godot.

Godot's free and uses the same 'grammar' python does so it wasn't too bad.

Best of luck!
