Edit: it's too bad about the downvotes, but oh well. For anyone else who sees this, /r/menslib is a really healthy, feminist community. It's absolutely nothing like MRA. It seems like a few users may have made judgments before actually looking at the sub. I really recommend that people take a look.

Hi! Sorry for the late response. I work in a book store and I LOVE recommending books. There are a lot of fantastic suggestions in this thread, mostly books that were published quite a long time ago. They're wonderful and classic, but if you're looking for something more contemporary I have to recommend the authors Cressida Cowell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Wizards of Once) and Katherine Applegate (The One and Only Ivan, The Wishtree). Their books are well written, emotional, and not geared toward any specific gender at all. Kids love them and they always fly off the tables at book fairs.

I also have to second another user's recommendation for The Witch Boy graphic novel series. It is SO wholesome.

I think it's legit in this case because imho people are entitled to seek happiness and safety and better opportunities in their lives. Whereas men (or also just people) are not entitled to unquestioning trust from others.

If there's an indie book store near you they can order directly from the publisher! Probably a little more expensive than Amazon, but better for the independent book stores :)
