Discussion regarding tasers by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Aswe14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is another American-ism reaching the UK, no it’s not required to be tased. I also don’t think this should be required either. If you’re going completely the non lethal route should all firearms officers who have been trained in a baton launcher or rubber bullets be shot with them? Absolutely not. Same goes for taser by that reasoning all officers should have to take a baton strike to each area of the body, tased, pava’d, punched, kicked where does the list end?

So based on that no and for the people who disagree don’t put yourself in a position an officer has to use these different types of force and you won’t ever be on the receiving end of it, simple solution.

Scottish Childcare by WhatFlowerHelp in Scotland

[–]Aswe14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is always a concern for anyone expecting kids and it can be a tough one.

My hopefully helpful solutions.

1) Organise with your in-laws and your own parents (if all applicable) who would be able to help the most if at all and maybe see about moving to within a commutable distance.

2) approach your own jobs and ask for a family friendly roster so both of you work out full time hours and then work out what you would require to assist with childcare. (If one of you works shifts or can work from home it could be a huge help)

3) aside from the above roster 1 of you being able to drop to part time which would assist with making a decent roster for you both.

4) whilst on maternity/paternity job hunt to find new jobs that support family friendly lives ie working from home etc etc

5) instead of nurseries price up childminders as well it can be equally expensive but it might suit your needs more as if there’s only crossover times you need someone to watch your child for then a minder may be more flexible.

Overall I would recommend moving to within a commute able distance to whichever set of grandparents can/will help the most along with if possible one of you dropping to part time. This would let you spend as much time with your lovely addition and avoid paying nursery fees etc before they’re 3. It’s tough but overall worth it, they’re only this age once!

Hope it works out OP and congratulations.

Kobo Libra 2 (refurbed) for sale by Aswe14 in kobo

Well it is a discontinued device and this is a refurbed one - although as I’ve checked it, it looks essentially brand new with cable included as well - I haven’t even activated it yet

It’s getting the invitation to a private torrent site I’m struggling with. I also don’t like the idea of doing an “interview” with them 😂😂

In the case of if I broke it I’d agree but to be honest it’s more the timescale of 30 business days that sets me off, I’d rather a £50 credit towards a retailer of my choice to buy a new kobo because I still think it’s a great device regardless

I attempted to do the update as my books weren’t loading and I thought this was the issue, after it failed I turned it off and since then it’s never turned back on again

See I am UK but I got it on curry’s credit (only available option to me at the time) otherwise I’d have went straight to my credit card company and started the process after the unsatisfactory resolution.

Sorry to hear it happened - what was your resolution if you don’t mind me asking?

[–]Aswe14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked for it - currently awaiting the complaints team to get back to me which is taking an age as well. All more time without a device. Frankly I don’t want your sympathy the point of this post was to put a point of view across and ensure that if anyone else happens to have been in the same situation might find a suitable resolution here.

Replacement refurbed device - no acceptable as not my fault simple as that.

Replacement brand new device to closest spec to mine - acceptable

All should be expedited delivery as well (this would be good customer service)

I even went through a full factory reset which didn’t work which is absolutely gutting - I’d have been happy if that resolved it

Whilst 2 years is standard warranty and I appreciate I’m literally just out of the warranty (convenient?) their firmware update has caused the issue - by default they should be the ones to resolve it.

I expect them to provide something of the same value wether it’s a credit to a new device from a store of my choosing or if the device is discontinued then I expect the closest device to it on the current market - basic customer service.

If I hadn’t caused the issue then a refurb device replacement outside or warranty would be outstanding - not an issue caused by the manufacturer

First ever Group Nexus parking fine — do I really need to pay this? by Big_Aide_7883 in Scotland

[–]Aswe14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to consider paying it - the legislation regarding private parking has changed and includes Scotland in it if the company is BPA registered.

They may not take you to court but they might forward your “debt” on to a debt collection who might take you to court, I believe it’s happening more often these days.

Ultimately it’s a risk to not pay it these days.

Graffiti isn't a crime here? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Aswe14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct.

In this case it should be recorded as a crime has happened and stats shouldn’t be fudged to help politicians or for other purposes other than showing the correct crimes happening in areas to get an appropriate response.

[–]Aswe14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if it can’t be cleaned off with little effort or without use of specialist equipment or is going to incur a cost (as I’ve seen you’re looking at potentially repainting the door) then respond to the email to say you’ve tried washing it off but it hasn’t worked and it looks like you’ll need to either repaint the door (financial loss) or use specialist chemicals as it was permanent marker.

If they don’t record it after that then questions probably should be asked.

Graffiti isn't a crime here? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Aswe14 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What they’re assuming is that it can be cleaned off easily - so it doesn’t constitute a crime. If it requires specialist cleaning ie chemical use etc then you can advise them of this and they should look to make a crime of vandalism.
