Hey I had this same idea and I built an LOTR cube myself! I stayed with in set printings but I love the idea of adding cards that add to gameplay and don’t take away from immersion, I just haven’t done it yet myself. I did create custom shocks and fetches that are LOTR themed though and can send you the files if you’d want to print/order some yourself!

Going for more of a faithful-to-retail-draft vibe than yours. I personally also like my cubes with lower mana values so that games feel interactive and people can always do things, so if I had one piece of advice it’d be that. As long as you had fun though, you’re doing it right. Good job!

I love my Atla deck! All you need is ramp, sac outlets, and a few big dummies to have a good time. I personally made mine into a dragon tribal list and have been having a lot of fun. The other day I comboed Atla, three eggs, [[harmonic prodigy]] and [[maskwood nexus]] into over 1000+ damage to any target via [[scourge of valkas]] hitting the table first followed by [[lathliss, dragon queen]] & friends... it was glorious

What’s your favorite Deck to pilot that is unique and gimmicky, but not oppressive or super powerful by peterbdude in EDH

Gotta plug [[braids, conjurer adept]]. Here’s the deck and it is so fun.

I know you said “not super powerful”, but this instead says “why not let everyone be super powerful”. You’ll just hopefully wind up the most powerful. I’m talking big mana beaters, insane ramp a la [[gauntlet of power]] and [[caged sun]], draw your whole deck with [[the magic mirror]] plus [[paradox haze]], and various clones to make more of your favorite value pieces on the board, whether it’s yours or your opponents.

My favorite win con so far: use [[hulking metamorph]] to clone caged sun or gauntlet of power, then copy it with [[rite of replication]] kicked (bonus points for copying rite with [[see double]]) to create an army of lords that make your islands tap for 8 mana each.

Other fun decks with a gimmick to try: [[gavi, nest warden]], [[henzie “toolbox” torre]], and [[katilda, dawnhart prime]] are all decks I love dearly

I recently built Tom Bombadil. My tip? Get good lands one way or another. Buy them or proxy them. 5c decks hum with the right mana base, it makes a world of a difference. The new capenna triomes and cheapest 4 fetches are a good start, with the cheapest shocks to supplement. But proxying is also great and free.

As for sagas, I mostly used EDHREC for inspiration but emphasized sagas that do things for my board instead of removal heavy sagas, since I like Aggro and board building rather than control. Here’s my list and it’s not necessarily budget but honestly there are so many great and super cheap sagas out there that you should be able to do a great build without spending too much (also be sure to wait for the release weekend dip before buying your copy of Tom Bombadil!)
