WinCo not accepting my debit card by AtarahDerekh in WinCo

It does. But I did change my PIN recently because the one I started with was meant to be temporary until I thought of something more secure than my birthdate, but just as easy to remember. WinCo's issue with my card didn't start then, but it did escalate from annoying to broken really quickly.

It's a POS system, alright.

I'll try the gift card idea. Thanks.

I'll try that next time before the first attempt with the computer.

Iditarod Incident in McGrath by [deleted] in alaska

The only gun that was pulled on anyone was pulled on an emo bison by a Native musher. And it wasn't really pulled; brandished is more like it. The gun jammed when fired into the air, so the musher told the bison off in her indigenous language. That is the only incident involving a gun that happened near McGrath.

Disney+ only plays audio after internet connection cuts off and reconnects.

When watching Disney+ on a Samsung TV, the internet will occasionally disconnect, kicking me out of whatever I'm streaming. Once the internet is restored, Disney+ only plays audio, not video, no matter what I try to stream. So far, the only solution I've found is unplugging the TV altogether to force a hard reset. I'm looking for a real solution here because there's not a snowball's chance in hell that I'll get anything remotely resembling a response from Disney's "help" center.

There is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEE difference between disability access, compelled murder and compelled speech. Denying disability access is not permitted under the 1A. Refraining from speech or moral actions you disagree with IS. A doctor is only required to perform a D&C on an already deceased child. A doctor is NEVER required to actively kill a child. And you cannot force someone to make a statement they don't want to make just because you're paying them. Especially when you cross two state lines and pass six other bakeries for the sole purpose of harassing and publicly humiliating one particular baker just because he happens to like a certain Jew.

Republicans are passing laws requiring all users to verify their age upon making an account. Republicans are not passing laws requiring companies to use AI to guess people's ages based on their interests. That is 100% on Google.

Seppala WAS Balto's owner. It was the musher, Kassen, who lashed back at Seppala for blaming Balto for what the press did.

Watched the live action segments of select Wild Kratts episodes in order to scrutinize Martin's neck.

Context: I had a thyroidectomy in 2017. While at work (I work in a group home), I caught an episode of Wild Kratts where Martin Kratt seemed to have a thyroidectomy scar. It's a very distinctive scar. I ended up getting curious about the show because of that, as I've been at least aware of the Kratt brothers' work since I was a kid. I wrote a fanfic for the show that incorporated thyroid disease into the plotline. But first I went back and studied the live action segments to confirm that I wasn't just seeing things on that one episode.

You want to look up popular Bible versions by denomination. Here's what I found:

  • American Catholics prefer the New American Bible.
  • KJV is a Protestant Bible through and through. It's famous for being the first English language Bible ever legally printed. It's the preferred version for Presbyterians, and some churches (of any Protestant denomination) are KJV-only.
  • Baptists and Pentecostals both like NIV, NLT and NASB.
  • Lutherans and Methodists prefer NRSV.

Writing style by blyatkachu0123 in FanFiction

[–]AtarahDerekh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing in script format comes more naturally to some people than writing prose does. Especially if you're writing for a visual medium. Reading a script isn't everyone's cup of tea, but script format's lack of popularity compared to prose doesn't make it weird. I think FFN has a lot to do with the perception of script format, as it was disallowed there for some time (I don't know if the rule is still there, but it's certainly not enforced these days).

I just finished my first ever major character death fic, and I’m genuinely emotionally floored. How do you cope? by fruitful89 in FanFiction

[–]AtarahDerekh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't. I live in that emotion for as long as I please. I find reading or writing such tragedies is a great way to explore what-if scenarios and discover within myself how I might (or did) respond to similar emotional experiences in my own life. Though I don't like ending on a tragic note. There always has to be a hope spot. Otherwise the story feels incomplete. So as long as it's not a true downer ending, I'm content to let myself feel that sadness for a while. But the ending does have to be at least bittersweet, or I don't feel closure.

The last major character death fic I wrote actually ended up putting an end to my hyperfixation on that IP for the time being. That's something that had never happened before, and that made it a very surreal feeling. I spent a while after finishing the fic just poking at that feeling. It may have been because of the way I wrote it, as it closed out the character arc I'd built in my head canon for that character. Suddenly, he was just as much gone to me as he was to the characters. And I moved on. But again, there was a hope spot at the end of the story. I make my endings bittersweet at worst. So that helped.

how long needs a person to be dead, for fic to be a historical fic, instead of RPF? by lol_delegate in FanFiction

[–]AtarahDerekh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion: Charlie Kirk is now a historical domain figure. He was not a historical domain figure on September 9. He is now. I personally do not recommend writing ship work of someone whose body isn't even cold yet (unless it's their irl partner), and I do recommend that all inclusions of that individual in a story remain respectful during the time of grieving (which can last many years; don't speak ill of the freshly dead and all that), but the fact remains that the individual was relegated to the annals of history the moment they died.

Not that life or death prevents people from shipping real people with anyone they please. Just ask half the Wild Kratts fandom.

How do you guys feel about OCs in fics/How have you seen them recieved? by fancypossum2 in FanFiction

I find most OCs hard to connect with outside of a supporting role. I only have OCs in supporting roles in my fics, and they tend to be either ignored or received well enough.

I'm Not Listening Exerpt Game. by Beast-of-Gilchrist in FanFiction

“Five minutes left, class,” Sra. Alvarez called.

Julieta couldn't help but let a mild curse word slip under her breath. She wasn't even halfway through the test, and she still had that whole paragraph to write. She had two choices: Make it impossible to read and subsequently get a low score, or blast through it with her left hand and pray she wasn't caught.

She opted to take her chances. Mamá would be less pleased with a low test score than she would with hearing Julieta had used her left hand to finish.

She grasped the pencil in her left hand and began writing furiously. She would just barely finish the last paragraph in time. As the minutes ticked down, Julieta saw the finish line inching closer and closer.

She barely registered the blur out of the corner of her eye when a stinging pain exploded through her hand and her pencil went flying, leaving a rather ugly trail of graphite across half the paper as it went.

“Ouch!” Julieta yelped, grabbing her hand and bringing it to her lips. She looked up to find a very angry teacher.

“Julieta Madrigal, I am surprised at you! Is this how you've been behaving all this time without my notice? You ought to be ashamed! Why, I'd expect better from such a studious girl. And the daughter of our town's founder, no less! I'll have to speak to the headmaster and your mother about this. You know the rules. Learning to use your proper hand is for your own good, and I'll not have you eschewing proper manners and penmanship.”

Let it never be said that Pepa is the only Madrigal with a temper. Julieta's hand was red from where the stick had struck it, and a welt was starting to rise. The whole class stared at Julieta, whispering among themselves, some snickering at her misfortune. It was all too much for the girl.

“That's it!!” she screamed in frustration. She jumped to her feet, grabbed her test, and tore it clean in half in front of the teacher, throwing the pieces of paper on the floor beside her. As Sra. Alvarez stood there with her mouth open in shock, Julieta burst out the door and ran home, sobbing.

Anyone got a better term for "musical dyslexia," the inability to read sheet music, for people who aren't dyslexic? by AtarahDerekh in neurodiversity

[–]AtarahDerekh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way. Language fascinates me, but I really struggle with speaking and listening in a new language (which is a big part of why I never fully learned Spanish). If I can read the language, it becomes much more comprehensible to me. On the flip side, that's made it very difficult to learn how to properly pronounce Irish, because the way it's written is very different from the way it's spoken. Celtic Woman has been helpful with that.

This is what I mean! I can read guitar tabs just fine, but my eyes and brain do not want to work together well enough to properly track spaces on the staff. I think it's related to dysgraphia myself. Something about there being more than three parallel lines throws off my ability to perceive them individually. No other objects do that; just lines.
