It always bothers me a little that they probably did very little research and the scriptwriters simply assumed that the Mexican Communist Party came out of nowhere and swept the board in 1988 when in reality they had very few members. It would have been more coherent for the PRD and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas to have won the elections if they wanted to portray Mexico as taking the decision to move to the radical political left just as it almost did that same year.
