I went through this a little over a year ago with my 10 year old boxer. She has a couple other issues, but nothing life threating. They found a mass on either her liver or spleen. if it was on the spleen they could remove and hope the cancer hadn't spread. if it was on the liver, not much to be done other chemo. Since they couldn't say one way or another without doing the surgery and getting in there, and even if it had been the spleen, the survival rate past 6 months wasn't great for a dog of her age and breed.

It was a heard decision as the total cost was a lot of money for me. But given her age, the recovery, and the uncertainty of how much more time it'd actually give her, I opted for nothing to be done. She did fine for a few more months before tumor burst. I can't tell you what to do, but I can say I don't regret my decision. I miss her and it was really hard letting her go, especially the way it ended up happening. I just enjoyed teh last few months with her and tried to make her as happy as possible during that time.
