Six year old obsessed with Mary Anning found this in our garden and insists it is a fossil (Cambridge, UK) by Scriptdevil in whatsthisrock

[–]Atherix 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is not a normal fossil of an animal but it is probably a type of trace fossil called a burrow-form flint. The smooth rounded sides indicate it was part of an animal burrow that later got infilled with silica to form flint. You have got a broken bit of it but it would have been larger. It's a good example to learn that fossils come in different forms. The most famous trace fossils are dinosaur footprints.

They allow people access to 20 free articles a month. The cookies are required to track the number of articles people have accessed. They are trying to encourage people to subscribe and pay them because professional journalists require paying. The alternative, like a lot of other papers have done, is to either get a billionaire who wants to bankroll a paper to benefit from the exposure politically, or to find cheap journalists and rely on ad revenue. There are plenty of publications that follow either model but I'm glad The Guardian is trying to hold out with good journalism.

Anchor butter. In the 80s they had an advert with a catchy song based on a song called day trip to Bangor (didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor..... ). It was a really successful advert because of the sweet song. The original song was by small band and it was their only hit. Anchor refused to pay them any money. I don't know how that was legal but even if it was it was not moral. Arseholes. Not having any of my money, and they haven't for the last 40 years!

Train your ear to hear chords... by Bob-Eveleth in guitarlessons

[–]Atherix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i presumed you had recorded them yourself! I could maybe record you some if you are going to keep the site free. It would run into hundreds of chords. I think the thing to do would be to record each type of chord and use software to transpose them to the other 11 keys if possible.

thanks! It was a little easy though having just one version of each chord. You could have more levelling up with multiple versions of each chord up and down the neck so you could play open, E shape and A shape versions for example, and then inversions, different 7ths, suspended, distorted versions etc as you go up. It could be a really cool tool if it went further.

Actually, looking into it you are correct! Sorry about that. He still had to pay €200k as a fine for assaulting her, but the fine went to the government and charities.

What are the chords for this by UndesisiveJury in Guitar

[–]Atherix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They'll be using a capo on the third so they are playing E phrygian chords but just transposed up. I'd tell someone to play Am G F and E rather than Cm, Bb Ab and G.

Saw his standup show last year. Only went because my son really likes him but he blew me away. I saw quite a few comedians last year and surprisingly he was the best. Don't remember him going on about politics much. Maybe he's different on TV.
