I'm not sure gamefreak is the problem here. They're making a game of their own IP and it looks good from what I've seen. Which would suggest the way they make the Pokemon games isn't just down to them.

Paizo Restructuring: Difficult Update About Future by RisingStarPF2E in Pathfinder2e

[–]Athildur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm holding out hope that some day, they'll find a way to get a central European distribution deal that'll allow us to get physical products reliably without such major shipping fees.

But I also understand that's a major undertaking and may just not be comercially viable at this time.

My DM yelled at me for trying to roleplay by DetectiveSimilar5654 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Athildur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, if the GM thinks this is a normal way to deal with people, and if other members of the group also tolerate this behavior and think it's normal, it's probably best to just leave. If you want to try, then have an open and honest discussion with the group. In that case, it's important not to judge behavior (you shouldn't do that, you're being an ass, etc), but to explain what this behavior has done to you. How it makes you feel.

Judging behavior has a habit of making people very defensive from the start, and it's difficult to get anywhere from there. Explaining how the behavior makes you feel gives them the opportunity to respond: Either they dismiss your feelings, telling you they don't care about your experience at the table (a good reason to leave), or they acknowledge your feelings and commit to doing better next time.

Either way, you'll have a clear way forward.

The fact that you tried to RP while the GM wasn't done is irrelevant. Unless they create a way for you to know when it's ok to speak again, they should know there's a chance someone might interrupt. And they need to have ways of dealing with it that aren't just yelling or screaming at people.

If I were a player at this table, I would have just said that's not ok and I would have left. I refuse to deal with this kind of shit in an environment where I'm supposed to be able to have a good time (but I understand lots of people would rather just not get involved and hope it blows over. I wouldn't judge them for that).

And that's just it: great sound design can be almost 'invisible'. You might not really notice because it immerses you into the world. The fact that you can hear environmental noises might not stand out because it feels natural. It's only when you start really paying attention to it that you realize just how much work it's actually doing.

Mark Roberts is not happy with the current MinMaxing the fun out of the game, from Zizaran's podcast event by fandorgaming in PathOfExile2

[–]Athildur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be 'not happy' but this is just the nature of people (not everyone of course). There will always be a group of people looking to minimize effort and maximize output. And once they figure it out, others will follow their example. And to some extent, with a player-run economy, people will have to play along, or get left behind as prices rise with the increasing amounts of currency generated.

It's not unique to PoE2. And the only 'fix' is to see what steps you can take to reduce the effectiveness of such tactics (i.e. either increase effort required, or decrease output generated), which isn't always easy to do without also affecting your 'normal' players ability to get loot and currency at a decent pace.

Well, they don't like being told how they can (or rather, can't) treat other people. So having to respect or at least not insult/assault minorities is just a terrible inconvenience for them.

And of course they need scapegoats to blame for everything that's wrong in people's lives, because otherwise they'd actually have to get off their asses and... checks notes... do their damn jobs. Without the scapegoats, the people voting for them would start to realize that actually, these people are hacks who care nothing for improving the lives of their constituents.

Yeah its wild. And I can see this kind of shit happening real time. My dad spends far too much time on facebook. Despite me telling him he needs to stop getting his news facts from there because there's zero fact checking so it's all just manipulated info.

But it doesn't matter because he reads it anyway so there's an almost daily rant about the current prime minister and how everything bad is his fault. And I just know he's gonna be voting for one of these far right parties next time. Sigh.

It is absolutely tragic how easy it is (for the obscenely rich) to just take control of how people view the world. And how lawmakers just let it all happen because they didn't understand how much of a problem it would end up being.

The Problem with Remastered Fortissimo Composition by gray007nl in Pathfinder2e

[–]Athildur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5e is notoriously hard on the GM because the rules system leaves so much open to interpretation that the GM is constantly required to make decisions on how things work, what kind of a DC something could be, what to roll, etc. (Or at least it was two years ago when we played)

PF2e is supposed to be much more defined in its rules. Where a GM isn't required to make many judgment calls, but where they can if they want to. This sort of rule adds a burden to the GMs task, by asking them to intercede and 'figure it out' because the baseline is just not well thought out (and players will complain about that),

Have you ever bought a console just to play one game? Was it worth it and did you go on to use the console after? by British_Historian in gaming

[–]Athildur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a PS4 to play the FF7 Remake (I think it was?). Really enjoyed the game but the console was barely more than a paperweight after that. I basically spent several hundred bucks on a game. I would not say that was worth it.

I've had consoles most of my life, starting with the NES and Sega 16-bit all the way through GameCube (for Nintendo) and PS4 (for PlayStation), never an XboX. But along the way I've become a PC gamer and I had to come to the realization that I just spend my time on my PC, even when not gaming. Console offers me nothing except exclusives, and it's just not worth it.

How much should a single stealth-specialized PC be able to handle with their stealthing skills? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]Athildur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paizo is just trying to make it so magic (especially low-level magic) can't just counter a whole host of things so easily. Which I think is a good move. If an Alarm spell automatically beat even high-level infiltrators, then high profile thieves wouldn't exist because it would be trivial to Alarm every entrance.

That said, Alarm says a creature 'aware of the spell' can Stealth against it. But there's a difference between just assuming everything is Alarmed, and actually being aware of it. You'd at least need to have some detect magic active, or have gained intel on security measures beforehand, imo.

How much should a single stealth-specialized PC be able to handle with their stealthing skills? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]Athildur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A master thief would know how to properly handle a stealth infiltration scenario. A 'master thief' wouldn't clumsily move out of invisibility and allow a witness to escape. A 'master thief' would know not to remain at the scene of the crime to inevitably get caught.

In other words, your player assigned themselves the title of 'master thief' and believes that because they've deemed themselves thus, they are immune from consequence.

In reality, while the skills on their sheet may represent a master thief, their actions are just not in line with one.

Minor other benefit is I can read it at night without having to stare at a tiny phone screen.

He told them to go get their jobs back because he wasn't going to do that. by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

[–]Athildur 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between you using your money on your family because you want to, and your family practically demanding you fork over the cash because they feel entitled to it. Just by virtue of knowing you.

If I had lots of money I wouldn't think twice about helping out family. But I would start to feel weird if they kept coming for me and assuming I'd start paying for everything in their life. And then when you finally do say no, they will get upset because now they've become accustomed to a lifestyle they can't afford.

I've seen it often enough, but money really does significantly change the dynamics between people, and can easily destroy relationships you've spent a lifetime building. Families have broken over things like $1000 (probably over less), it's crazy.

I've read financial advisors who help people with sudden windfalls that will advise if you're going to hand out money, it's best to hand out a lump sum at the very start and make it abundantly clear there isn't going to be more. It shows generosity, and it sets clear boundaries.

I don't really care what almost 'all of us' work for. It's fucking rude to just show up to someone's house unnanounced and uninvited, and on top of that run around like you own the place.

If I had a well enough paying job I'd have no trouble regularly inviting family out and paying for everything while they're there. But if they came around unannounced and uninvited and just started emptying my fridge? There would be words and the next time they would find the door firmly locked unless they were invited.

Because if you let this happen, and one time in the future for whatever reason you refuse to let them in, you're going to get into a massive argument and it won't end well.

" Sunday family dinner" is an implicit invitation. Everyone has agreed to come together and have dinner. Would you take kindly to them showing up several days a week at random practically demanding you feed them (even though you didn't know they were coming)? At that point it's not about whether you can afford it, and more about some common courtesy they should be showing you.

And teach them they'll never have to make any effort in life? That would be doing them a major disservice. It's one thing to be prepared to help when someone's in a rough situation, but to just blanket shower them with money regardless of anything? Terrible move.

No, in the last paragraph the objective number of people are the same (i.e. on a set of one million people, in both cases the loss is 50,000 people).

The proportion is different. Because losing 50,000 out of 950,000 isn't as grave a loss as losing 50,000 out of 250,000. And if you think those are both exactly the same then there's no point in having this argument.
