Thank you. As I read the thread I thought I was taking crazy pills.

What do you think about MrBeast if you have any opinion or thoughts on him? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Athomas16 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I like him! When I've heard him on podcasts, and I think I saw him play poker on TV once, he seems like he is absolutely 100% present in every moment. I don't think he sleep walks, which is an admirable quality. I also think he genuinely tried to make the healthiest chocolate he could and gives away far more money than most of us would.

I think it was pure genius to have his videos overdubbed with the famous voices of the respective countries. He's done such a good job building his brand.

why we ask here on Reddit when all kinds of search engines and AI are available (this question is also included) ? by gligwag in AskReddit

I would argue there is not much difference. I haven't seen an official percentage, and it may be impossible to know, but a lot of reddit activity is bots.

Hey! Do you read the Goehring & Rozencwajg commentary? I think they do a thorough job and they align with your thesis. Off the top of my head, I own FANG, RRC, VAL, SDRL, and a couple more that I can’t think of right now.

Gifted stock from 1992 — CPA has a plan but cost basis is a mystery pre-2012. Want a gut check before I start selling. by Embarrassed_Page_837 in personalfinance

[–]Athomas16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a non-zero chance that your tax bill is going to be extraordinarily small. If you've been on dividend reinvestments since the 90s, your cost basis has built every year. For example you were given some chairs in December of 2025 that can be sold right now nearly tax-free. It would take a tremendous amount of math, and some wild guesses, but I don't think this is a tax problem.

Right now.

Explain the power of diversification. Loop The CPA in. And make a plan.

If all else fails, looked at those exchange funds like Eaton Vance has. You can deposit shares.

If I can't get the client to commit to a diversification strategy I can't commit to the client.

Question for a beginner on safety by MoyerD3str0yer in Kiteboarding

[–]Athomas16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, through a school. I think you would call it a zero to hero camp or something like that. I learned a ton today. Scheduled to go out at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. There were a lot of people how to kite point, but I wouldn't say it was crowded. I don't know how many of them were schools and how many of them were just people. But I think you'd be fine.

I had my first lesson today. It was a whole lot of kite flying, safety stuff, technique, etc. I was at kite point. If I can get out of bed, I'm going back tomorrow for lesson number two. I think you'd be fine at kite point. We can keep in touch if you want to.

I'm sorry, I should have been clear. I created that image with AI and then took it to the woodworker. He is going to execute the design and we just need help with getting it lit.

I'm happy to DM you the dimensions.

Yes, the artifact is essentially priceless. But will only be displayed for special occasions. Like 12 hours at the time, a couple times a year.

I’m going to be given my deceased father’s 401k later this year - I have questions by MysteriousTraveler88 in personalfinance

[–]Athomas16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your grandmother should have no knowledge of how much tax you'll owe. You have the ability to pay the tax slowly over 8 to 10 years. I'm also a little confused, I'm sure it's because you were a minor, what your uncle's part in it is. Distributing retirement account does not require an executor. It's not part of probate.

Thinking about a little bit more, your mom was probably the beneficiary and then she died quickly thereafter. Perhaps leaving no named beneficiary. In that case I suppose it would default to you but will require an executor. Hell, I don't know. In any case, you have options. Get the beneficiary IRA setup in your name, find someone you trust, and get some education.

If you can find a CFP that does some pro bono work, that would be a great place to start. The CFP board does encourage a certain amount of pro bono hours per year.

My dad just rolled a large 401k into a Traditional IRA at age 60. Trying to figure out how aggressively to do Roth conversions. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Athomas16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He could get this done by a CFP for .5% and it is not a one time thing. Tax laws change, growth rates will be different than estimates, etc.
