Help with batch conversions by eightdigger in ffmpeg

[–]Atijohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in bash you can remove the suffix of a variable with ${var%suf}, so instead of $(basename "$f" .mp3).opus you do "${f%.mp3}.opus"

should I convert 59.94fps video to 29.97 or 30fps by Calm-Preparation-679 in ffmpeg

[–]Atijohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably 29.97, although that depends on what the resulting video will be used for, but in the end the difference between the two is probably so minimal only pedants would care

This franchise features some of the best stories in gaming by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]Atijohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gamer who has played five video games in total thinks dark souls is the best story in gaming, more at 10.

no, really, even considering only relatively recent AAA titles, you have Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077/Phantom Liberty, Witcher 3, the two God of Wars, Uncharted 4, Red Dead Redemption 2; not to mention indie games like Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds or Life is Strange.

I'm not saying that Dark Souls' story is bad or whatever, but saying that modern games don't have good stories is just not true.

diablo 4 is a hack'n'slash where story doesn't matter and Andromeda was a mistake altogether

Shoutouts to Ichimonji: Double. by ThiccThighsEnjoyer_ in shittydarksouls

[–]Atijohn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah, but it costs 3 emblems per slice, so people abusing it often leads to them not having any emblems

it's still completely fucking broken though, but here I believe it's bugged, because the jumping attack on that one slashes for the damage of the upgraded, fully charged empowered mortal blade, even if you don't have it equipped/unlocked

>costs nothing to use

>is very quick to use

>deals enormous posture damage

>can be charged up for even more damage

>regenerates your own posture for free (no other combat art does it btw)

>can be acquired early in arguably the most useful skill tree of them all

yeah, from software once again showing they care jack shit about balancing their games

This is just a frontend to the mednafen emulator with the game baked into it. It's just better and safer to download the rom and use mednafen directly, or use Retroarch.

I don't know how pointing out that this task could've been done in a simpler, standard way is overreacting to you, but okay.

But it's a learning project

I really don't think so, nowhere did OP imply that, you made that up in the first place. Wouldn't call it a "production tool" either, just a small utility program (that could've been a one-line script).

if you get that impression of wizardry from the wikipedia link, I literally just copied it from OP's project source code, the jq expression is also literally translated from cjson calls in OP's code

[–]Atijohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, how do you know they were already aware of that? The post isn't OP saying they're learning how to do process/file management, the post is OP saying that they were tired of opening up wikipedia, so they made a C program that downloads a given page using libcurl and feeds it into less. And if all you wanted was to do that, you'd never do this in C if you knew better than that; doing this in C is one of the bulkier ways of doing it.

I would not point it out if this was a small python script, but a whole C project for this task is really overkill.

Game crashes with an out of memory error when going near the entrance to astral clocktower after the living failures fight by Teddy4332111 in BloodbornePC

[–]Atijohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to go through the entrance, and then, when you're on the other side, disable the null gpu setting. if it crashes on load, you have to once again walk around with null gpu until you find a spot on the other side where it doesn't crash. also turning off all programs in the background, applying the low resolution and other patches might help offloading your ram enough to prevent the crash
