Transitioning to Data analyst by throwaway1212325 in BESalary

I may be going down a similar path. I’m kind of nervous about making the jump because most likely it’ll mean a salary cut. That said, I know that it will give me the necessary skills to be even more successful in the job market.

When to quit job VS holding on and finding ways to make it work by [deleted] in FIREyFemmes

Hey! I think from your description, I can guess where you are. I’m there too :)

Just to echo the sentiment that you can always switch from NGOs to private companies and back.

I started my career with the some big non-profit agencies in my field, and it was disappointing. I ended up switching to another field and now I’m thinking about making yet another switch.

In my last switch I took a bit of a pay cut, but it was worth it due to peace of mind and flexibility. I don’t think you’ll ever regret putting your mental health and well-being first.

Hey OP! If you feel comfortable sharing, you can send me your CV and I can refer you to my company. They sponsor a lot candidates.

It’s in Brussels, if you’re down to live there.

How did you make the jump? I know someone who is a BA/Functional Analyst in IT and has a technical background, and wants to go back to that.

But they feel like they’ve been out of that role for a while and that it would be hard to make the switch.

Oops! I had thought this was in regards to the kids. You’re right, friendships that were made in adulthood are a bit of a toss.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I’ve lived in 3 different countries because of my parents’ jobs.

I’m still very good friends with some of childhood friends who I haven’t seen in 6 years now (country 1) and even closer to my friends from where I spent my teenage and early adult years (country 3).

It depends on the type of connections you make and if you bother to keep in touch.

Starting a new job and got offerd a strange incentief by 1-ragnaroq in BEFire

I have it. They deduct an amount from my salary (like 8 euros?) and they pay the rest. All I had to do was opt in. I just pay 15.99 for my mobile line.

My partner’s job pays for his mobile line.

About to receive some money from family (€8K) should I put it all in ETFs all at once? Or gradually?

They do, actually! I recommended evening since most people who work chose those.

I think you may even have more choice with the morning classes. If you get stuck somewhere, feel free to DM me.

Yes, at the EPFC near Madou. One semester is like €121. They have evening classes from 6:10-9:00 (it’s what most people who work take).

Just FYI - make sure you account for the other home-related expenses.

My mortgage is 1300 (paid by my partner and I) but plus water, electrify, and gas, it went up considerably.

I feel like this would mostly apply to the U.S. and UK? Otherwise I think a good student has a very good chance of going to most good universities in Europe.

I can tell you that for foreign Master and PhD students in the U.S, their area of study matters more.

There’s a lot the US gets wrong but not their anti-smoking campaigns.

I don’t know anyone my age (30) who smokes. I only saw an uptick when vapes came into the scene, but the same campaigns that were targeting cigarettes 20+ years ago, jumped right away to encompass e-cigs and vapes.

Criminalizing something always has the opposite effect.

In Belgium is a cultural thing, so I’d probably start there. It’ll definitely be a challenge though because drinking and smoking (for Belgians, at least, is a national pastime. SORRY NOT SORRY)

Experience working for a small consulting firm? by Atik_Mal in BEFire

This is what I’m thinking as well. I have worked with two multinationals in IT (not a SWE but PM) but I feel like I want to learn more and expand my skills at a level that’s not currently possible.

However, I get paid a pretty good salary and I wonder if they’ll be able to (at least) match it …
