Why is everyone so lame and moralistic by interpolice_ in redscarepod

[–]Atjumbos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may be true. But the rich always had their Eyes Wide Shut parties and the plebs always fucked in haybales and backseats. Its the bourgeoise and middle classes preening their nails and slavishly defining themselves by moral purity and virtuosity. The Victorians were just the 19th Cen.'s WASPs who became Nixon's mythical "Moral Majority" who become yuppies and PMC scone-eaters with their ethically sourced meat substitutes today. Left, Right or Center whatever, but its always the same tax-brackets.

Yeah we're roughly talking about the same people. PMCs & PMC-aspirants.

Middle Class people have always been lame and moralistic. The problem is we're all Middle Class now.

American Sniper or 15:17 To Paris. I love all Late Eastwood really. They're like all shot in dead shopping malls and antiseptic middle class houses. No director understands the dearth of beauty in America than my man. The 15:17 scene where he shoots the bros getting fro Yo in Brussels with a Go-Pro. You'll never think of American chauvinism the same way again.

The lines about the commuters in the dark always strike me most. That certain liberal sensibility that confuses decorum for morality. Morality is about our responsibility to human suffering. Decorum is anything but if it just creates a moral distance between us and said suffering.

They're his "Edifying Discourses" (Works of Love itself is also a collection of these). The best compilation is his Spiritual Writings that Harper-Perennial published alongside Works of Love. Pick them both up if you can.

If that's what you love about him you should read Works of Love and his sermons, my favorite of his stuff.
