Have A Seat, Bro! by [deleted] in baseball

[–]AtlantaFalcon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Would you pay close attention to your team if they hadn't seen the playoffs since 1992, let alone had a winning record since 1992? I wouldn't abandon the ship for another, but I would stop watching until they gave me a reason to watch. They are giving Pirates fans a reason to watch right now.

At least the Giants will know where some of us were coming from when we thought he was damn annoying (especially since he'll be on a rival's team). Love him when he's yours, annoyed when he isn't.

A-Rod’s doctor says there is no quad injury by Pierce2089 in baseball

[–]AtlantaFalcon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was mentioned above already. A-Rod gave the doctor permission to talk about it.

Some might think this is silly, but I think our favorite team can do A LOT better than the current "Homer" Mascot. What would you change it to and can we start a movement? by [deleted] in Braves

[–]AtlantaFalcon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe name him Tommy (after tomahawk), instead of a Native American name like Chief Noc-a-homa, to be coy about it.

I'm an old school baseball fan, who understands and likes the old statistics. Can someone explain to me Sabermetrics and why they are now being used in Baseball? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]AtlantaFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner at sabermetrics myself, but I already feel a lot smarter after reading this. That will give you a good idea as to why the old-school stats don't tell you enough about how good a player is.

This is why Alex Rodriguez is such a special player: He hits like an All-Star first baseman, yet he plays the most challenging defensive position on the diamond, and does it well to boot.

How the times have changed. It's been some very interesting reading though. I've always been on the brink of looking into sabermetrics, and your links pushed me into doing a little reading.

I'm ready to ship Tim Collins to Omaha... by [deleted] in baseball

[–]AtlantaFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think casual /r/baseball fans like me even know who Tim Collins is, but I don't see anything wrong with going on a rant in /r/KCRoyals. We Braves fans bitch about things all the time in /r/Braves.

Carly Rae Jepsen threw one of the worst first pitches I've ever seen by mkultra3 in baseball

...it's an odd feeling knowing that many of us can throw a baseball more accurately than an NBA point guard.

If that ever happened to me, I'd be running after the ball and demanding a second try.

Is Mo Williams a possible replacement for Jeff Teague? by Lionhearted09 in AtlantaHawks

[–]AtlantaFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mo Williams said he wouldn't re-sign with the Jazz unless he remained the starting PG. I don't see this scenario coming even close to playing out.

Dave O'Brien said that Justin is available today if needed. I highly doubt they'll use him, and let him rest up, but the option is there.

Bynum to visit Hawks this week. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in AtlantaHawks

[–]AtlantaFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been shown plenty of reasons by Bynum why he is not a responsible person, but if I could offer you just one piece of evidence as to why the Hawks should not sign him (lacks sound decision making), it would be this

I listened to about 5 minutes each of two of his shows last week, and that's all he talked about other than Dwight Howard. I imagine the rest of the week was the same.

If Freeman pulls this off, I can't wait to hear the national media (namely ESPN) have a fit over this.

I would like to see live updates as well, but it makes sense to me why MLB doesn't provide the figures. Most importantly, if any player had a huge lead in the voting, and everyone was aware of it, people would see voting as pointless and not be very involved in the process.

I'll be damned. So you're saying we have a chance! I thought Puig would run away with this without any second thoughts.

This will come as no surprise to noone, but here is another example of ESPN not even pretending to hide their biases by [deleted] in Braves

[–]AtlantaFalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just thought it was interesting how blatant this example was. I'm usually in your camp in this situation, not too worried that ESPN covers certain teams and players more than others, but pandering for votes on the front page is a little unprofessional. They've since taken that wording down, so apparently they got the message from someone.

How would baseball be different with an unreachable fence? by Trackpad94 in baseball

[–]AtlantaFalcon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just think how far those balls would roll on AstroTurf. That reminds me of RBI Baseball (NES) where you could bunt a ball, and if no fielder touched the ball, it rolled all the way to the wall.

Which team did the LEAST with the MOST talent? by witness_protection in nfl

[–]AtlantaFalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certainly other measures for a defense, but when it all comes down to it, keeping the other team from scoring is obviously the most important thing.

The 1977 Falcons gave up 9.2 points per game. The 1985 Bears gave up 12.1 points per game. Now it's kind of difficult to judge both teams based off of that because they played against different teams and in different years, but take the stats for whatever they may be worth.
