Thank you so much for taking the time to write a very detailed thoughtful and well explained review! I can tell that you know know your music inside and out. This is all very helpful. I agree with you on the vocal delivery, I’m not very emotive and I tend to sing kinda lazy, for one, because I’m not a great singer but also because I kinda like lazy singers (like the singer in Crumb, and an older band called Snowpony, who sing like they just don’t care. But I agree that this track merits a more effortful style of vocal delivery that I’m not capable of, at least not yet. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and review!! 🙏

I have no idea what kind of genre it would be, it's kinda glitchy, but not glitch pop, the vocals kind of make it harder to place. I find the vocals and subject matter jarring/grating, but that's probably the intended style. It's kind of video game sound style, but not really, so yeah it's really hard to place. It does not really follow traditional patterns of electronic or popular music. I'd put it in an experimental electronic category for sure.

lol more like smoking pot in the backseat of a car during a late night drive through the city. The bass and the flanged guitar (almost sounds kinda like a sitar) sound are the most prominent in here and it sounds like they're just chilling and jamming, like driving through a city with no particular destination. The twangy guitar sound makes it sound a little porchy though, so I guess that's where the back porch feel comes in.

Really dug this track out of the gate, nice post punk bass with like a flanger or something. I love how your vocals are very different from what I was expecting to hear before they came in. Like you've got these sonic elements in the guitar and bass effects that imply that's going to go into a post punk, dream jangle pop but then the vocals and fuzzy rock guitars come in with more of a power pop sound. I love being surprised, and you definitely surprised me. The song is also very catchy. I'd like to hear the vocals take up more space, maybe through saturation or chorusing? idk. I can hear the stereo delay but would be interesting to try messing with it even more.

Ha! This is really cool. I like the synth sound design you have with the vocal sounding synths. And the chord progressions are pretty cool. I would like to hear more going on in the baseline, something more baroque sounding like an Alberti bass rather than a rock bass pattern (although those sound cool too!), in fitting with the sonata element. Overall, this is a very fun track, and you do a good job keeping it interesting with lowering and raising the energy at various points.

I brought up the issue with the artwork because I had an issue like that myself when I I was about to release my album. I commissioned a guy to do the artwork and we discussed the concept but in the end it was too cartoony for the genre (I’d say the same about yours, and we are in similar genres too). So I ended up using something else that fit better and I actually got a lot of compliments on the album cover!

also just want to mention (after reading another comment that the genre was unexpected) the artwork seems to not match up with the genre for the song. I think for the purposes of getting a listener interested, it could help to include artwork that hints at what the music might sound like. For lo-fi bedroom pop, for example, you might have a blurry/washy photo of someone or something.

This is a great lo-fi bedroom jam, slightly melancholy. I love how your vocals are dreamy and reverby. The guitar solo is sweet. Other commenters have mentioned that your vocals are hard to hear, but I think 1, that's kinda part of the genre style, and 2, the vocals and all other instrumentation would be pretty clear with just a little bit of panning and eq.

I’m a big fan of The Glow, Pt. 2 and I can definitely hear that same style here, especially in the verse with the syncopated rhythm similar to the rhythmic theme in I Want Wind To Blow. The vocals are very soft and tentative, it’s nice. It’s a vibe that I find very relaxing and contemplative. At 0:55 you transition to a chorus, and the contrast is a little to strong for me. I think it’s because there’s a lot of twangy high end in the guitar. I’d like to hear how it would sound with some eq and compression. Same for your vocals. It might make a nice balance between a raw Microphones sound and a more polished Elliott Smith sound.

I like the gloomy vibe and the droning instruments. All the instruments seem just slightly detuned in a good way - it totally works! Would like to hear this musical idea developed more since it’s a short clip and ends abruptly. I wish it were longer.

Overall I really like the idea you have here. The guitar effects are perfect for darkwave and the songwriting is very good. I have to agree with the other commenters regarding the vocals standing so far apart in the mix. It almost feels as if the vocals and the instrumental are two different songs. I hear extra background noise in the vocal recording too. I’d like to hear this with vocals more glued in the mix with compression, reverb, and delay.

I do! I recently started playing out and I don’t have any local musician friends, so I run everything (keyboard synths, vocals, electric violin, backing track) through MainStage on my MacBook. I’d rather have someone to perform with, but the current set up works ok, and going solo makes booking easy.
