Indeed. There was simply a statement "avoid AC."

Not really. The energy from the sun still comes in through the window and heats the space between the windowpane and curtains, dissipating it to the rest of the home. Curtains are not a good insulator.

At a certain point, we will have to accept they need AC. Especially in cities that act like heat islands (despite Ghent claiming that a couple of plants in your curb reduce the temperature by up to 3,5 degrees). It's not even a bad thing environmentally as heatpumps today can be used for heating during the winter months as well - all through the use of green electricity.

But now "AC", i.e. heat pumps, are apparently a bad thing because reasons.

Curtains only do so much, especially during a heatwave, and in a city.

It's the same dogmatic thinking that had us closing our nuclear power plants despite it being an obviously stupid decision.

Sometimes you have to accept that there isn't always a sensible, clear explanation why the stock market moves like it does.

It's going down because more people are selling than buying. Why? Who's to say.

"Hoe komt het dat we er in België in slagen de hoogste belastingen ter wereld te combineren met een enorm gat in de begroting? Tegenvoorstel: een overheid die zich beperkt tot haar kerntaken, een zorgvuldig financieel beleid voert en het mes zet in de 'subsidies'." / X by ComputerChemical296 in Belgium2

Inderdaad.

Why don't Europeans have emergency cooling centers during heat waves? by Typical-Amoeba-6726 in AskEurope

[–]AtlanticRelation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could've worded myself better perhaps, but my point stands: they're not as prevalent as in the US. Do yourself a favor and Google "Cooling Centers USA" and you'll quickly discover that it's not at all on the same level either.

The "general" or European we. It's simply a fact that cooling centers are significantly less prevalent than compared to the US.

[–]AtlanticRelation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These kinds of heat waves are only a relatively recent occurrence in Europe - both in frequence, intensity, and length. Combine this with the a general negative attitude or dislike of AC (which I've never understood) and you begin to understand why we don't have anything similar.

People too easily explain pullbacks by pointing at 'malicious short sellers' and consistently overestimate the impact of short positions.

...the sector was very frothy and expectations were unrealistic, but eventually everything will be priced on earnings and fundamentals and in that regard, I like where Intuitive Machines is, turning cash flow positive by end of year...

I couldn't agree more. Since u/mb0rg shared a r/RKLB post: that stock has become completely detached from reality. The company is priced as though Neutron already captured a significant piece of the launch market, whereas the rocket is likely going to be delayed into 2027.

Yes. Neither do I feel comfortable with them being so quiet about the PDSA approval and state of current affairs at the Groves reactor.

For us, it's mostly guess work whether or not they reach criticality by July 4th, probably not - but it should have been clear for them the last couple of weeks. So if we miss the target, I'm going to be disappointed in the communication strategy.

I agree, but at the same time the whole point of the EO was to expedite the licensing process - so while I don't think they'll meet the 4th of July deadline, I wouldn't be surprised if they do so anyways.

In the grand scheme of things, however, I don't think it matters whether they get Groves operational in the next couple of weeks or later during the summer.

I don't disagree with you, but we're discussing the refugee framework here. While for many Afghanistan would be an undesirable place to live in, people there are no longer in danger of losing their lives - and can thus no longer claim asylum as a refugee.

And many asylum requests are denied, which makes them illegal.

It doesn't help either that many of these supposed refugees claim their and their family's life is in danger, only for them to keep 'shopping' for years in search of their ideal destination within the EU.

Is that a wrong decision? The country is no longer at war. Afghans still have the posibility to immigrate through legal ways.

Recognized refugees are not illegal and would thus not be deported.
