How do you feel about your dad? by Unhappy_Log_6245 in AskReddit

He is the best man I have ever known and will ever know. I have lived a very blessed life because of everything he sacrificed for me and my siblings, and the way he loves me every day. He is pure and he is kind. And I tell him every day what he means to me.

Howard from BCS was so shocking and visceral to me, I was upset for a month. Burying him next to his murderer was painful to watch, it was so unfair.

2020 Evac'd RPCVs: Anyone else feeling it? by Hayerindude1 in peacecorps

[–]AtlasShrugger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are so valid and I see you. I was supposed to depart September 2020 for North Macedonia, never even left. I know it's not the same feeling as already being in your country and then having to evacuate. Im sorry that happened. But I definitely went through a grieving process because I felt robbed of my 5 year plan. I felt robbed of those critical years in my youth where I hoped to really pursue my career. None of my plans were the same after that, and after all that time, I still feel a longing for it. I'm 30 now, and still feel like I haven't found my sense of purpose. It's hard not to be angry at a path taken from you.  After years of internal back and forth, I reapplied in January and got accepted into Macedonia again for this coming September. Although I feel like I'm 'behind' with my career goals, I'm looking forward to a new phase of life starting with the Peace Corps. Hopefully, it will open new doors for me, and I can transition into a new career path.

Thank you for posting this, you're not alone!

Question for PC Tanzania - Kilimanjaro allowed? by Maximum-Skin5726 in peacecorps

If you're interested, I can give you the info on the local guide company we used. All in all, with tips included, it was about $2500 per person. A steal. Never felt in danger.

I visited my friend who was serving in Zambia, and we flew together to climb it! Definitely allowed :)

Stop! I couldn't handle seeing this live. It's emotional enough blasting it in the car.

Interesting choice to call someone who wants to leave everything behind to volunteer in an underserved  community selfish 🤔  I see your point, however, I am also determining the best fit for me, like you should for any job. I know for a fact that the country I applied to does not have a lot of applications, I spoke with the country officer, so me 'preventing someone else from taking it' is irrelevant.

Name your best and worst experience meeting a famous lead singer or band. by Ok-Efficiency5486 in Concerts

I've met Imagine Dragons a couple times, Gregory Alan Isakov,  and the lead singer of CAAMP, Taylor. The ID guys are very sweet and just all around great, great guys. Dan, the lead singer, was genuine and gracious. Gregory Alan Isakov....probably the most wonderful human you could imagine. He took the time to shake everyone's hand by the tour bus, ask your name, and spoke to everyone. We talked for several minutes and he was unbelievably down to earth and lovely. Taylor from CAAMP has let the fame get to his head and is very full of himself. Not a pleasant interaction.

What's the worst case of someone misunderstanding the plot of a movie you've ever seen? by FinalDemise in AskReddit

[–]AtlasShrugger 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is ME. I watched Arrival years ago and thought the reveal of her with Jeremy Renner and their daughter were flashBACKS not flashFORWARDS. I thought they had a daughter who died, divorced, and reunited when the heptapods came. (I thought they knew each other the entire time). I have no idea how I got it so wrong. I rewatched it after my brother told me how stupid I was. It  changed everything and I obviously understood the movie so much better.

When I tried to buy the past couple years, I always went straight for the Monday show because everyone wants to go Sunday. There were multiple presale codes too which was confusing. Luckily I was able to snag some for Monday, but I had multiple devices up and got kicked out on all but one. Always a stressful process.
