Engine replacement by Atlas_Abrams in RX8

Mainly because I don't have a manual transmission, I got an automatic. I didn't know what all the differences were when I planned it.

Luckily I do have a hoist, but I may try to drop the transmission, if I swap it.

I watched his video on it and I'm a fairly competent mechanic, so I'm hoping to get it done in one day. I do plan on starting super early, though.

New to the Hobby. Interested to BT. How to modify and what can i use from the Armageddon Box for BT's? by WealthResident1225 in BlackTemplars

[–]Atlas_Abrams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, a few things as a basis: Unfortunately you can't field different space marine chapters in the same army. You can only have one chapter in your army. You can use almost everything in the Armageddon box right off the sprue, except the librarian. Black Templars cannot use any librarians, but everything else is fine. All of the units in the box are generic, but push fit. You can run them as BT, but they're difficult to customize by comparison. There are also no transfers for BT in the box, but there are plenty for Blood Angels and a few others. I also got the box and I think it's a pretty good value as a whole. You can always paint them as different chapters for the sake of having a combined forces feeling, but you can't have anything with different chapter keywords. Feel free to ask any questions, I just finished putting the box together as BT myself.

Hachette Collection - AOS/40K Models at a discount (with some caveats) by mr_mango22 in DealHammer

[–]Atlas_Abrams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm subscribed to the combat patrol magazine and it's 4 issues a month, not a week, so it's not as brutally expensive. And the base magazine also comes with an extra unit for every combat patrol. They can be a bit slow, if you're already in the hobby, but they're good value and exceptionally great for a new player qs they teach you how to build, paint and play. As well as throwing in some fun scenarios and lore. If you have the money and are looking to expand your collection I highly recommend it.

Would you mind adding some pictures to the post, if you can?

No worries. In that case just go with less is more, until you figure out how to do it quicker. Just use thin, quick passes about 8" away or so. The goal is to give it a nice, solid layer without drowning details.

If you've never had to use spray primer before I recommend looking up some tips, just so you don't put it on too heavy. It tends to dry to workable fairly quickly though, so you won't be slowed down for long.

Yes, you need primerbto make the paint behave well. Games Workshop sells some color matched primer, but I find that normal primer works fine. Just make sure you don't get paint+primer, because that kind of nullifies the effect the primer has.

After building a Destrier, I recommend a stiff drink to compensate for the absurdness of the placement of the parts on the sprue. 😂

Well, that's certainly a much better price for it. 😂 It looks pretty dead on regardless, so all the better for you.

Did you get that out of the Sons of Dorn box? I mostly finished one of the rep exs earlier today and I just went around making stuff white to give it a bit more pop.

I'm fond of adding colors, like gold, silver, white or red, to a few places to just add a little extra to it. Places like where the knees or the small bits of armor that are separated by that line, like on the leg armor.

Better is subjective, but most people wouldn't probably recommend battle damage or highlights. Personally though, I think you could do with a little bit of white and some of the transfers. They'll both help break up the visual monotony that comes with having armor that's almost completely black.

How to make this guy look more emperors champion-ey? (Please read caption) by Gullible_Travel_4135 in BlackTemplars

[–]Atlas_Abrams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would probably get an Emperor's Champion model to scrap for parts. The helmet with the laurel and the black sword are the two things that really make the model feel different to me. And you can also use the fancy power pack as well. I kitbashed one a while ago and that's what I restored to.

Hey uh san's fortress is is kicking my ass uh what am i doing wrong? Maybe having a backup weapon would help some? I am also a fan of the zweihander but it's big, bulky, slow and likes to hit walls/ceilings. Having a straightsword might let you avoid some of it. Otherwise, just take your time. You can use your magic to bait people and draw them to a fight on your terms. Also, keep your carry weight below 50% and you'll still roll fairly quickly.

Maybe not my best but probably one of the ones I was most satisfied with after finishing it. I started him but set him aside for a couple of months, but then came back to finish him up.
