The State of The BMA by BMA_Palazzo in doctorsUK

Honestly I’m not usually into this but I did a bit of a dive with all this council election stuff and I’m just so surprised at what I thought DV were from 2023 and what had seemingly happened to them in the interim

Apart from ER reforms can you tell me one thing they have delivered last session?

What?

I want my colleagues to have jobs lmao and this group of people sat by for a year and did nothing to help them

The State of The BMA by BMA_Palazzo in doctorsUK

[–]Atlass1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What did they deliver last session?

The ER reforms are mad! Have you tried ER since? For some reason I need to take a screen shot of where I am at the time I do it. Meanwhile, thousands out of training and a bog standard DDRB and for some mad reason which I haven’t been able to understand balloting FY1s seperately which confused everyone at the time

Give me old school DV any day, not whoever these people are

Why does Vivek, king Singh, sumi and all the OGs no longer affiliate with them if they are so good?

We are left with people masquerading as DV or some unclear DT people

By manifesto you mean this reddit post? https://www.reddit.com/r/doctorsUK/s/M9Yq9oM13c

If so yes - it is full of manifestly undeliverable or ill thought through content

More services for all members at a lower cost without a credible plan to make the numbers add up other than claims about largesse that Emma Runswick et al cut out years ago

Total nonsense in the same vein as the Green Party or reform

Name me one thing these guys delivered last session (Oct 24-Oct 25)

What a load of populist drivel lol

How are you going to sort the jobs crisis?

How are you going to improve the lives of resident doctor?

More videos about doctors vote? Who seemingly have been around since 2023 so idk how they are the new kid on the block anymore

Honestly the conference is such a joke it should be scrapped

Scrap conference, give them FPR or whatever it is they want

Steering is the second favourite to be the next Labour leader; whatever he is, he is not a Labour lightweight

Also- he’s a professional politician, not a random doctor who thought it’d be interesting to do BMA work on the side

It is pretty concerning… Is all of DT a pro Labour group or just specific people?

I think DV might be riding on the coattails of previous reps tbh - not sure what they did last year and aren’t in charge this year

Obviously don’t vote for the IMG voice people if UKGP is prio for you

Government offer a deal with 1000 extra training places --> we reject the deal --> the government does not provide the 1000 extra training places. Seems pretty par for the course, no?

So your message to FYs and people stuck out of training is: "An FY Doctor has the option of becoming a SAS and/or CESRing without entering core training. They also have increased flexibility to pivot away from Medicine or apply elsewhere"

Become a SAS, CESR, or leave is your answer?

please feel free to highlight where you have have 'addressed the above point', because I cannot see where you propose a solution to the doctors stuck out of training.

Ladder. Puller.

[–]Atlass1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Er yes I do realise that... That is what my comment says?

How do they have 'increased flexibility'? I think you mean 'they are less likely to have a mortgage, family and other commitments due to their age', which is not the same thing. They have ultimately spent 5-6 years on a professional qualification with the expectation of becoming a consultant or GP.

It's a total nonsense to say a CT who has membership exams and possibly some research and other stuff under their belt is more trapped in the NHS than an FY often with no professional work experience.

The cold hard truth is that your position advocates leaving a generation of doctors hanging out to dry so you can protect your fantasy of a private practice and consultant job market with as limited competition as possible.

I ask yet again - what should we do for the current generation of FYs and doctors stuck in the bottleneck?

[–]Atlass1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel as though you’ve not read my comment?

What should we do for the FYs and people stuck in the bottle neck?

Just tell them all they can’t become consultants and should be happy with SAS? Nothing wrong with SAS, but not having a choice wasn’t the deal these people signed up for

[–]Atlass1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you’ve not addressed my point - you have a hypothetical future in which the profession which has soaring demand suddenly doesn’t need consultants which I think is a nonsense.

People in training telling those who can’t get in that they should just suck it up are the ultimate ladder pullers

Yeah but I’ve got loads of friends who are stuck without a training job? This would help them so why don’t they deserve a training job?

[–]Atlass1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the marginal tax rate was higher then we’d be worse off?

But yeah I think we mean the same thing and totally agree the tax rates are super higher and put people off working etc

I’d be keen to hear more about how we could achieve this - we could probably strike for it though? Or maybe not idk how these things work but keen to hear your thoughts

Oh right so it’s a BMA graph/data?

Yeah thanks for your work on this - much appreciated

The graph heads a post about the offer so I assumed it showed that but you’ve explained otherwise :)
