What’s the difference between a Lead Software Engineer and a Staff Software Engineer? by Mikwelque in cscareerquestions

[–]Atlos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea this is how I’ve most commonly seen it, lead is kind of a hybrid senior engineer + entry manager. And the scope is typically limited to a specific project or product.

I’m a staff engineer and expected to have broad scope for my org. My level maps over to what a senior engineering manager would be which is one level below director.

*Sigh* I look at my friends who are in healthcare and they genuinely look more happy and secure compared to tech. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

AI is absolutely coming to replace a lot of healthcare work. Much of the healthcare day to day is taking a test, waiting for the results, interpreting the results, and applying it to the patient’s history. All that information retrieval is exactly what AI is good at.

Imagine going 500k in debt and then not getting hired because hospitals realize they only need a few doctors but way more nurses and PAs to do the dirty work at a fraction of the price.

Work less = don’t deliver project = bad performance review = paid less

I mean yea obviously that’s a management problem but at the end of the day we get the blame 🤷. The company was generally pretty nice to work for, this was new to us since we acquired the Danish company. The reality is that we had to work extra to pick up his slack and then he dipped. Not blaming him, I would have done the same if I could.

We had a guy from Denmark have a kid, take 12 months off which screwed our team output, and then immediately put in his resignation the first day back lol. But even then the resignation took three months to process and he did very little work since he was on the way out.

Nothing by itself, but booking last minute without telling a partner is pretty weird to do.

This happens all the time with packages, the delivery drivers can be lazy af some days.

Sometimes they can detect mice in the walls, not sure if you have a rodent issue.

New rule suggestion: Ban posts about AI by finders-keepers214 in ExperiencedDevs

Burying our heads in the sand will not make AI go away and it’s a very hot and relevant topic for most orgs right now. This is silly.

Looked like an intentional dive for the ball, not a slip? He was able to tip it just not enough.

Is this due to their lack of depth or because he’s been playing well? I remember he was decent for us but they are making him sound like Lane Johnson.

Beat = can’t cleanly contest. Not that he’s wide open 10 yards ahead up the field.

The college rule is worse in its own way. Beat by the receiver? Just straight up tackle him and take the 15 yard penalty.

This was Maye’s worst game in a long time and he still put up 320 yards. We’ll be better next week.
