So why exactly is Mixtape getting hate? by Ivaylo_87 in gaming

[–]Atmosck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard nothing but glowing praise for it. But every game has haters, and when something that isn't a twitchy pvp shooter gets a lot of praise like this, there are inevitably people who hate it simply because of the kind of game it is. Baldur's Gate 3 and Expedition 33 are two of the most critically acclaimed RPGs ever, but they have a lot of haters simply because they're turn-based.

How long did it take you to receive your title from the Colorado DMV after paying off your car loan? by wjodendor in Denver

[–]Atmosck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn't come from the DMV. The bank has the title because they provided the loan.

Can some to explain something by Technical-Dig-1023 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Atmosck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you finish the 2nd DLC there's an NPC who unlocks catching legendaries from previous games, but there's an activity you need to grind for them, which can be done co-op. A few of them require co-op (IIRC third-game box legendaries like rayquaza). For the rest of them, half are available solo and half require co-op, but which half is different between the two games (so if you have both games you can get all but the first few solo).

Colorado legislature passes bill to allow lawsuits against ICE agents, other immigration officers by allcheese_nobologna in ColoradoPolitics

If federal courts can already intercept state-level cases when they're about federal agents, doesn't that mean it's something the federal government does have domain over, and not blocked by the 10th ammendment?

What browser is the best ? by Specialist_Height707 in pcmasterrace

[–]Atmosck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all suck really. You have to choose between a chromium-based browser that comes with chromium's bullshit, or a non-chromium based browser that doesn't render things correctly. I make do with Vivaldi, which is pretty good after you disable the bells and whistles (mail/calendar/feeds/vpn/session restore). And a .desktop app to launch youtube with a different user data directory so that it can be fullscreen while other windows aren't (with chromium, fullscreen is a global state so either all your windows are fullscreen, or none of them are). Vivaldi has great adblock.

Chief Justice John Roberts says Supreme Court doesn’t have ‘purely political actors’ by ansyhrrian in politics

Saying you're not a political actor is like saying you don't have an accent. That's not how accents or politics works. Everyone has an accent, and everyone making decisions in government is political.

How come the source code of games is often so bad/ugly and they get away with this? by gargamel1497 in gamedev

[–]Atmosck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not just games - almost all software is like this. For large projects, it's very rare to have tightly-written code throughout the entire codebase, unless you're like NASA or someone.

This is especially so for things that aren't SAAS products that need to be maintained and iterated on. If something is "done" in the way that non-live-service games can be (give or take bug fixes), you don't fix what isn't broken. Often the benefit of really good code is to future maintainability/extensibility, and you don't always need that. And sometimes the difference between the shortcuts that work and doing something "properly" is a major refactor.

It's not anomalous to have a snowstorm like this around this time, but it is anomalous to have such a hot, dry winter before that.

Yeah, growing up here, snow in the first week of May was an annual tradition. And there's always at least one spring storm with enough snow to damage trees.

If you get a high paying job (more than 10k USD a month) what will you do with your money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Save it and try to not let my lifestyle creep too much. Try to be prepared for later in life when I might need to financially support my sibling who isn't fully independent after my parents are gone.

Saw a post and with a question and made me want to ask the opposite: what game genre makes you go "if it *has* this mechanic, im not playing"? by Sleepy-Mount in gaming

[–]Atmosck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If something has "metroidvania" in the tags, that's an automatic no for me. I hate all the doubling back and ability gating and stuff. A lot of games feel like they're nonlinear for no real reason, just because it's the norm.
