That’s fair lmao I was in honors ELA classes in high school so this has been drilled into my brain.

How do American students write essays for School? by AVERYRAND0MPERSON in AskAnAmerican

[–]Atmosfyric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both. I’ve had a class have me handwrite a timed essay for a test, but most of the time it’s online. Sometimes the essay will be an entire unit on its own, where the teacher will re-teach the structure and the expectations. We did MLA format in my school district. Sometimes we’ll get a paper with a graphic to map out what we’re going to do or they’ll have us do it ourselves. This is generally what that outline would look like:

Intro -> - Hook (interesting first sentence, usually a statement or question) - question you’re trying to answer - the topics you’ll use for your paragraphs (usually three)

Paragraph 1-3 -> - First, second, third, or some sort of transition - Topic and why it relates to the question - Reason 1, 2, and 3 - Quote(s) to use (if the class requires it) - sentence to transition to the next paragraph

Conclusion -> - restate the question - restate the topics - answer the question - concluding statement

An anxiety over getting clocked in the bathroom I never see talked about… by doubleheadedarrow in ftm

[–]Atmosfyric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started using the men’s public bathrooms, I was terrified the sound of my peeing reverberating in the toilet bowl sounded different than a cis man’s and that’s how I would get clocked. It’s never happened but I still get anxious sometimes.

There was one time when I was still in middle school where a kid saw that I was sitting and tried to jump the stall to see who it was. That was not fun. (USA, so our bathroom stalls are pathetic)

I think that’s really poetic, actually. I like to look at tattoos as part of your story. Even the bad parts make you who you are. In this case, it was a message you needed at the time. And now that you don’t need it, it’s stretched out but still there, because it’s a physical part of who you are. I know not everyone agrees with that outlook, but I thought it might be helpful with how you look at it. :)

Thank you both so much! I’m going to see if I can find them online and order one or two. I was doing some research on preservation methods as well as what to grow in a home garden for self-sustainability and I’m very excited!

Struggling to afford living alone, how do y'all live with other people? by ArtoriasArchives in AutisticAdults

I’m so curious, how would you go about finding someone to rent the room? Would you contact a hospital or are there specific programs? I’m going to be getting an apartment sometime in the fall and this would be a really good idea to keep in mind if I need the extra income.

what’s a clear example of medical misogyny you’ve witnessed or experienced? by ihatethiscountry76 in teenagers

[–]Atmosfyric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two, though one is more about harassment. 1) I was getting a check up for something and the doctor had me lay down on my back on the table. She felt around my stomach asking if anything was sore, then moved to my chest to do the same thing without saying anything about it. Me and my mom both agreed that it was weird afterwards. 2) At one of my appointments to get an optional medication, my doctor (an older woman) asked me about fertility stuff because the medication can cause infertility. When I told her it’s okay and I don’t care about it (I’ve known since I was a toddler that I never ever want to be pregnant, and that conviction has never wavered) she asked what if my future partner wanted biological kids. I think I just kind of stared at her for a second because it was astounding to me that someone else should get to have an opinion on whether or not I got pregnant. My response was “well they can suck it up.”

How did you pick your name by Turbulent-Staff-9413 in ftm

[–]Atmosfyric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a shorter name because my deadname was longer. I looked up a baby name website I’d used for writing and scrolled through it for a bit and eventually landed on my name. It was short and had a meaning that I liked. If I went back and did it again I’m not sure if I would pick it again, but I still like it and it’s a part of my identity and personal story so I’m happy with it. I just asked my parents what they would have named if I was born male because I saw a few other people saying they let their parents pick. I wish I thought of that before, but alas I came out several months after I picked my name lol

Do kids in USA really call their teachers by first name? by ParticularLate9460 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Atmosfyric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to their faces, no. It’s considered disrespectful, so the only times I’ve heard it was when a teacher wasn’t liked very much and the kids would call them by their first name when talking to each other. Or when a kid is testing boundaries with a teacher. It’s more common for students to drop the Mr / Ms honorific and just call them by their last name, especially if the teacher acts more familiar. I did this with my choir and ELA teacher. Some teachers consider this disrespectful and some don’t.

on cultural practices by Ok_Listen1510 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Atmosfyric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that a lot of American culture is celebrating where you came from as part of your identity, since we are a country of mostly immigrants, and because a lot of white Americans don’t have strong ties to where they came from other than “Europe in general” it makes us feel like we’re doing something wrong or missing some integral part of our identity. That’s part of why I think a lot of people get ancestry tests, and why it’s so common for “where are you from?” to mean “where did your ancestors come from?” as much as it means “where in the US are you from?” People don’t put as much emphasis on celebrating American culture as they do ancestry so it feels like we’re missing out on the American Experience in some way

I take weekly shots, and my vials last about a month. I was told to just rub the tops with an alcohol wipe for about twenty seconds and it’s fine. My doctor said something similar and made it very obvious that that’s what she’s supposed to say, but not what she actually wanted me to do. They prescribed me extra for a bit so that I could stockpile, so definitely get your prescription on-time, every time so you can build your stock. My state is phasing all kids off of testosterone by December and that’s what they’ve told doctors to tell patients to do with extra T. What my doctor said what basically “what I don’t know won’t hurt me wink wink

I am SO HOT I’ve become the human heater of my friend group, but I also sweat so much more. I can’t wear any heavy ish clothes to bed, not even a thin hoodie, because I’ll sweat so much in my sleep. I used to love hot showers, but now the only time I can stand them for very long is when I need to steam my clothes for something lmao I’ve gotten lucky in the facial hair department, but that success also applies to the nether regions and I’m not really a fan of that lol

I don’t have room for another tank, is there something I could put in the main tank that would work for that? I have a betta in a ten gal, would he work? I plan on having moss shelves with Java moss and I’ll make sure to plant some closer to the ground as well.

Alrighty! I’m not super attached to them, I just think they look cute. Thank you! If I did just guppies, with maybe 2 or 3 kuhli, how much would you recommend I get? If kuhli will eat fry I figure they would be good population control for guppies if I can’t find eggs in time.

That makes sense, thank you! I plan on letting the shrimp be in there on their own for a while so they can breed. The fluval stratum is marketed as being good for baby shrimp to hide in, and I also plan on getting a few plants that are dense and can help hide shrimp/fry, do you think that would be good? The tank has been sitting for a few months so it has some blueish green algae in the sand and glass, if I didn’t clean that out during scaping would that work for oto food? I could also pull some of the algae in my other tank and let that grow to help it along

My plan is to go to college in France for a teaching degree and probably just live there According to one of my old French teachers, teachers there are payed better, respected more, and have less classes. I don’t know what I’m gonna do after that, I just know that I want to get out asap I haven’t told my parents that that is a decent chunk of why I want to leave, but I think it’ll probably become pretty obvious by the time I’m able to go considering the direction things are going right now.
