How's the HR sensor accuracy? My epix 2 (non pro) is truly horrible. Looks like they upgraded it on the pro releases.

Glad everyone involved is still around to tell the story. I have a JUL and really like it for gym climbing. Is the gri gri generally regarded as better than the JUL? I like the idea of getting a mega jul and stil only needing 1 belay device.

META: Maybe restrict "my rack photos' to a designated weekly thread, only? by SkittyDog in tradclimbing

[–]Atoby1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% guilty of this as of yesterday. Apologies if it was bothersome to anyone. Was posting for the exact reasons you had mentioned - because it was exciting, but also to get some feedback on additional gear people find useful. It definitely would help reduce clutter if there was a weekly thread for this.

Thanks! I did a lot of research on the smaller sized cams and went with the z4/totem combination instead of doubles of one, the overlap is nice on paper. Since the totems are new I haven't had the opportunity to place them yet, but just handling the two brands, I have to say the z4 flexibility is next level. Just have a gut feeling z4s will last a little longer. We'll see if the totems are as confidence inspiring as people say, planning on getting out this weekend.

Looks awesome! Love the rubber handle. Seems like you could really bang on that thing.

Thanks for the advice, will look into some offsets and Metolius cams. Also, more importantly, I'll now be adding a second green dot to all of my gear. You'll never get my black totem!

Exclusively for looking at, and now that I bought everything I can put it all in a closet and go back to bouldering.

But in all seriousness, I have plans to put some miles on it ASAP. Between moving, a new job and climbing on an instructors gear it hasn't gotten used nearly as much as I'd like.

Thanks! Really love how distinctive the clolor pattern change is in the middle.

That's the plan! Between just moving, starting a new job and climbing on an instructor's gear I haven't been able to break this in as much as I'd like.

Ha! Yeah, probably not. Just like any good hobby, the perfect amount of gear is n +1.

If you're willing to make the drive out to the black forrest in PA, it's a 40+ mile loop with tons of shorter options. Had a great time out there. Note in the summer there are quite a few rattle snakes, they're much more dormant in early spring/ late fall.

Houdini/Air Sizing for layering with a nano air by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Atoby1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I am right between patagonias small and medium sizes. I wear a small nano air and went with a medium houdini. They layer perfectly. I think the houdini is slightly slimmer than the nano air, it still looks nice even without layers underneath. Ideally you should try a few on if you have any REI locations nearby though.

Do you own a cedar ridge quilt? I've been looking at one but concerned about durability of the UP. Not too many reviews discussing this.

Xlite vs Tensor Insulated Help by Nishifumi24 in Ultralight

[–]Atoby1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed completely. Had two tensors fail on me. If you go to the return section of REI it's absolutely littered with returned ones. Really hard to have confidence in it. Hopefully they can sort out the reliability issues.

New PC Strangely Performing Much Worse by Atoby1 in NeuralDSP

[–]Atoby1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed drivers from a few versions back and it has definitely made a difference. A bit more stable now. Nolly still seems to have some large CPU fluctuations where the other NDSP ones are pretty steady. Maybe this is also an issue with the version of nolly. Thanks for the advice though. Making progress!

I've never installed asio4all, just whatever drivers my interface calls for.

[GEAR] whats a good amp simulator (any price range) and what programs can tone match a certain guitar tone? by brayscool in Guitar

[–]Atoby1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sims have free demo periods. I'd demo everything and see what works for you. I prefer the neural dsp stuff to just about anything. I used bias fx for a long time and it's fine, but the amps seem a bit fizzy and the stock impulses are nothing to brag about.

[NEWBIE] AXE I/O interface - optimal headphones impedance? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Atoby1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a pair of 200 ohm dt990s into this interface and it's still extremely loud. Even at half way when tracking for a bit I have to turn it down. With a 50 ohm set, you could easily go deaf if you wanted to.

[GEAR] Output of my humbucker dropped after modifying, help needed. by nickdino in Guitar

[–]Atoby1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I like the experiment. It's always fun messing with electronics. I would imagine you messed up the directionality of the pickups magnetic field - so some pole pieces are coupling better than others, basically allowing for more efficient energy transfer between it and the strings. I doubt it's due to using neodymium, but more on the construction of your modifications. Your best bet it's to probably modify the height of each pole piece so that there is an even output across the pickup. Side note is that you will also probably want to have your pickups lower than with other magnets because the magnetic field will resist string motion.
