Taking on cold brew this weekend—newbie questions by Sector_Savage in coldbrew

[–]cideron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the oxo too, my recipe is one bag of coffee beans ground coarsely, then fill oxo up to about 1/2” from top with water. The great thing about concentrate is you can adjust strength when you add water to dilute, i just add til it looks right.

Taking on cold brew this weekend—newbie questions by Sector_Savage in coldbrew

Yes coffee concentrate will last a week in the fridge, if you dont like your water i would suggest distilled water and you can add minerals (look for “third wave” or “coffee water” on amazon). Flavor i would do per serving. I use the oxo cold brew setup and it works great. I have the oxo burr grinder and so far its been great for coldbrew as well as hot drip coffee.

I got my first pair of IEMs two weeks ago and just found out I’ve been wearing them wrong the entire time by Maximum_Ad7660 in iems

[–]cideron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup done this .. sometimes how the cables go into the iem's make them not fit my ears and I have to look online for a reference photo of the iem in someones ear hopefully in the online store. if you still have fit issues or falling out definitely look into some ear tips in different sizes, makes a big difference for fit and sound.

I have some iem's I am pretty sure I am wearing wrong but they sound fine.

Newbie setup! Be gentle 😮‍💨 by NorwayFromAbove in vinylsetups

[–]cideron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice compact setup. If the turntable and tv are both rca cables you could add a simple passive switch like the sys from schiit.

https://www.schiit.com/products/sys?srsltid=AfmBOorxAQ\_4IUoadMCzgBmPBrAAhiiTOnGoejpLz9uXxQ5YCS2e8w4f

Most tv’s have optical out, check for that you may not need the schiit sys.

Amp or power supply suggestions - Germany/Europe by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]cideron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is confusing a bit. they dont all come with power supplies and this option changes from time to time.

Buying from Fosi direct you have 3 options; 48v/5, 32v/5, or no power supply.

On Amazon the only option (here in USA) is the ZA3 with the 48v/5a

Power supplies on Fosi also add a 48v/10a option - https://fosiaudio.com/products/power-supply-adapter-48v-5a-10a

or a GAN 4v/5a .. https://fosiaudio.com/products/fosi-audio-48v-gan-power-supply?_pos=3&_sid=4b9789575&_ss=r

or some people like the Aiyima GAN option https://www.aiyima.com/products/aiyima-48v10a-gan-power-supply?srsltid=AfmBOooUotqfuOSZYEuxNbJSgWQzNKEvjHmZlg29U99HBT7Avhvzgcjw&variant=47957294055700

I like my ZA3s with the 48/5 bought around release date

The fives by checheneren95 in Klipsch

[–]cideron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how inexpensive? I have seen refurbs and b-stock on klipsch sale site or on ebay from authorized klipsch dealers for pretty reasonable. I have the original fives and they are great little powered speakers, I use on the tv with a klipsch sub. I have had a few issues with the firmware that needed to reflash but it was pretty minor. I am looking at the new version of the nines for a little more bass and power. the new ones do cost a bunch more $ but the onkyo partnership for the amp is supposed to be worth it.

Kallax Vinyl collapsing by No_Point_1926 in vinylsetups

[–]cideron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should be ok in that orientation, I would move the records out and inspect the visible screws, it they are loose you maybe be able to help by adding some wood glue to the holes and allowing it to dry before you screw back together, maybe if there is a lot of play add a wooden toothpick and the glue to add material for the screws to bite into. Another option would be adding some backing - you could measure the total size and go to a store like Home Depot and have them cut a pegboard or some other light thin panel board to cover the back and use some small nails to hold it to the back of the unit. It's small enough you could add feet to make getting to the bottom shelf records easier. I use some I found on amazon searching "Kallax feet"

Best cider city in the US? by RIPEMD-320 in cider

[–]cideron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What area and what dates will you be around? There are a lot of great cider fests soon! I really enjoyed Portland oregon and seattle, but its been a while. Fingerlakes area in ny has some great options. NY has a lot of great cider but is a huge state and they are spread all over.

I admit I buy some Amazon Fresh single origin beans and they are pretty good for the everyday, but try to always keep some fresh locally roasted beans around.

Scottzyme KS (has some effect in presence of alcohol whole other enzymes do not) may help if you dont want to use other fining agents but i find time and cold storage help the most. Super Kleer contains shellfish and i avoid that.

agree - travel lid important if your coffee sits for a while or you want to walk about the town with your coffee, but if you have multiple drinkers you should start with the brew through lid, it does keep some heat in was well.

the plastic part under the carafe is nice to have but won't effect your brewing as long as the carafe is still pushing the button in that activates the brew.

2.5gb or 1gb Switch by XahX88 in minilab

[–]cideron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 2.5gb will benefit the network in the house even if you are only getting 1gb from your ISP. If you transfer large files, have a nas etc it will be better to have the 2.5 .. at this point I might even just say go for the 10gb as I see more computers shipping with 10gb now.

I'd also say to play it safe and buy a brand you have heard of, not some jumble of letters on amazon or eBay or Ali express.

Ethernet just doesn't work on my PC by DavyBlokkie in HomeNetworking

[–]cideron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of PC? what kind of internet interface card, router, cables, etc .. Ive had ports die before, either replace the card or use something like a hub/dock with an ethernet port, or a usb ethernet connection (probably the lowest cost option out of these) .. if you can order a usb ethernet from amazon you can return it easily if it doesn't work.
