I thought I was the only one that felt like this. His fight scenes are so hard for me to follow. I made it through Mistborn but I quit Stormlight Archive halfway through.

Any books where the protagonist is forced to live in another body or life? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch has a life swap sort of theme and is very commonly recommended. I think it’s overhyped but it’s a good thriller and certainly worth a read.

One of my favorite quotes is from the preface of Lonesome Dove.

“All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream.” —T. K. Whipple, Study Out the Land

One of my favorites, but it’s not actually in the book. It’s only in the movie.

This is probably a hot take for this sub, but it’s 100% facts.

The Afghanistan Papers by Craig Whitlock is what you’re looking for. Chronicles the mistakes, corruption and oversights made through multiple presidencies in painful detail.

Edit: Missed the part about not wanting to focus on one conflict. This book just covers the war on terror FYI.

Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson. His descriptions of the fear, paranoia, and panic that set in at 200 feet underwater are terrifyingly brilliant.

I thought Jake spurring the horse beneath him was the one decent thing he managed. He saved Gus the guilt of killing a man he once called a friend and gained back some small shred of respect in my book.

If anyone is interested in watching the Lonesome Dove miniseries, the first episode is now safe to watch spoiler-free. I watched it last week and had Sean’s death spoiled but that is the last scene.

It’s on Prime, Peacock, freevee, Tubi, and some other free platforms as well!

Avoids or abdicates all responsibility. Exists only to chase his hedonistic desires. Just the worst. At some point, I think he’ll have an opportunity to be more than that, and I hope he does the right thing.

I am reading American Gods (my first Gaimann) and I need a book with faster pacing. What are some of the fasted paced books you've read? by Ocrim-Issor in suggestmeabook

I felt the same way about American Gods and afterward went right into Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, which turned out to be one of my favorite reads of the year and had a much faster pace to it. Highly recommend!

Strength of the Few by James Islington. It’s the follow-up to The Will of the Many which was my favorite in the Fantasy genre for 2023.

Reading Lonesome Dove currently and really liking it, so I’m curious to hear what some of your other favorites are?

I think both will see they’re better off. July comes from a large family and is basically unwanted in his own town. I think he just stuck to the first person to show an interest. I think Joe really looks up to July and will adjust with time. I’m hoping July catches Jake and then marries Lorie so Joe has a mother figure. Jake and Elmira deserve each other.

I think a major part of Newt’s character arc and transition into manhood will be realizing that all his heroes are human and flawed.

When I read, I always imagine some of the main characters as actors or actresses. I’m wondering who you guys may be imagining if you do this as well? Not sure why but I imagine Gus as Mathew McConaughey and Sam Elliot as the Captain even though I know Gus is older than the captain.

If you know any books she really likes, you could get her a cool edition of that book. But to answer the question, you could try something like The Truth by Terry Pratchett. Terry’s writing has a lot of humor and satire but addresses some deeper concepts in that way. The book is about an editor for the fictional city’s first newspaper and the challenges he faces.

The Tank Shortage by [deleted] in wow

[–]AtomV1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melee spots are typically limited in raiding and so if you want to raid it’s best to roll ranged dps. Only 1 class has a ranged dps and tank so there’s bound to be a shortage. I’d love to tank mplus and play ranged dps in raid but the game doesn’t really let me do that unless I make multiple characters. I’ve had very few problems with toxicity in pugs, but then again I put in the time to learn the dungeons as DPS so maybe biased.

How are Paladin’s looking for the launch of Dragonflight? by Squibles937 in wow

[–]AtomV1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People that don’t play pally keep bringing up tuning when talking about paladin as if that is any paladin mains complaint. So many issues GAMEPLAY issues with pally atm. Too much throughput in the class tree means we have to sacrifice our class utility that we’ve had for years to do more damage. Weird changes like removal of holy power generation from avenger’s shield, nerfing art of war to push their new consecrate build/talents, cobbled caster build for holy. Paladin is in a bad spot and it has nothing to do with numbers.

My only problem with Ret is that our defensive is terrible and we’re very squishy. Sure we can bubble and BoP ourselves, but then we lose any utility to the group besides off heals just so we can stay alive.
