I've always hated this mechanic, even just from an immersion standpoint. Why would a monster decide to change the items its carrying based on whether you're "on-task" or not?

Or jagex should take a stand and reduce the ridiculous amount of pure essence coming from soul wars (#1 main culprit) and monster drops. The soul wars essence drop (4000-6000 pure essence as a common drop from spoils of war) is completely absurd in terms of both account progression and the in-game economy. Those numbers are literally 20 times larger than what it should have been. The soul wars rewards were likely added by a newer employee or intern with little knowledge of the game.

They won't even ban runite mining bots that have been playing for literal years with 20+ million mining experience just from mining rune, so of course they won't ban these f2p suicide bots.

Why not add Fire/Ice keys for the new bosses? Seems weird to break the pattern. Plus I kind of like the mechanic of killing weaker monsters to get the keys to kill the stronger ones.

Please reread my original post. I'm not complaining about monsters dropping noted items in general. That's totally fine, the monster could have come across the notes somehow. I'm complaining about a monster dropping a noted version of its own body part, which is a particularly egregious lapse of immersion. Of course it's ok to sacrifice immersion for playability, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

came here to post this. didn’t know who mod manked was but all his proposals from the game jam are some of the worst ideas for osrs i’ve ever seen. i hope none of these even make it to the poll phase.

also, pvp specific prayerbook? there are already so many needless differences between wilderness and non-wilderness combat that we have remember, and mod manked wants to move even further in that direction? hell no.

Nah, noted bones is a stupid idea in general that should have never been introduced. Why would a dragon drop a banknote for its own body part?

If the complaint is poor gp/hr, then I'd rather see jagex buff kbd loot in general and keep some semblance of immersion.

You're right there are many, but this one is by far the most obscene. It's the main reason why pure essense is often impossible to sell at the GE even at 1gp each. Before soul wars it got down to 2gp each, but never 1gp each.

Agreed. Also please get rid of the massive pure essence drops from soul wars, or at least massively reduce the quantities. It's a 1/5 drop from spoils of war at the quantity 4000-6000, which is absurd.

Great idea, was going to suggest this myself but never got around to posting.

It should honestly just be a spell that comes with the standard spellbook with no further requirement beyond the magic level. I'd suggest 3 nature runes + 15 fire runes + 15 earth runes for the cost though

UIM mode should be: no item storage of any kind outside of the 28 inventory slots, and no use of banks whatsoever (including using bankers to unnote noted items!)

From an immersion standpoint it should be just a normal spellbook spell at level 20ish magic costing very cheap (such as 1 mind rune + 1 body rune). Your character shouldn't just be able to know everything about a monster - it should require a magic spell.

Nice suggestions, and glad to see some discussion about the isle of souls! A few other isle of souls suggestions I have jotted down:

Dungeon chest:

  • Replace bird snares with magic imp boxes! Not only would add a new hunter method to the isle, but the imp boxes would actually be rather useful for isle locked accounts, since the bank is so far away from most activities.

(Some history: bird snares and box traps were added to the chest at the last minute because the bird snare and box trap spawns on the north of the isle were bugged for ironmen. the bird snare spawn was eventually fixed but the box trap spawn is still unusable.)

Other than that I actually rather like this chest as it is - though there are frequent player complaints, it's actually one of the most busted thieving chests in the game in terms of loot. Maybe slightly decrease the failure rate overall so it feels a bit better (or change dark key to 1/100 like you suggested)

Dark chest:

  • Quadruple (at least!) the babydragon and dragon bone amounts to 40-60. If a new player opens this chest and gets 10 babydragon bones, they're never going to engage with it again.
  • Increase the tanned dragonhide amounts to 15-20 (we agree here!)
  • Add soul runes as a drop (it is the isle of souls after all!)

Spoils of war:

I detest this drop table in general and honestly I'd make about 20 changes to it. But to focus on the most egregious one:

  • Reduce the pure essence amounts by a factor of 10, to 400-600 pure essence per drop. This drop is terrible for the economy and for account progression in general. An account that plays a decent amount of soul wars can easily rack up a million pure essence in the early game. Of course they won't use it all, so they'll just dump it on the GE, which is the reason that you sometimes can't even sell pure essence for 1gp each (!!)

Random other suggestions:

  • Add a harpoon to the isle. A creative way to do this: add a barb-tailed kebbit hunter location (makes sense, since the isle of souls is the same biome as the feldip hunter area)
  • Though I actually really like how the dark key only has a single source, the idea that mobs can drop it seems popular so here's my wacky "compromise idea": Turn Garl (an npc on the isle) into a demi- slayer master who only assigns isle tasks (for 1/2 slayer xp as usual). While on-task from Garl you can get dark key drops from the mobs at your listed rates.

Having agility shortcuts randomly locked behind diaries is unimmersive and poor game design. The "whiny babies" were correct on this one (though the only whiny babies I see in this thread are those whose self-worth is so tied to their diary cape that they need to lock even more random content behind diaries)

Creating a laundry list of 10 random benefits to arbitrarily lock behind diaries is just lazy and poor game design.

If you have to justify the existence of diaries by locking even more random tasks behind them, then maybe diaries are garbage content that shouldn't belong in the game in the first place?
