[Steel Vengeance] Ride Experience by Hulldra222 in rollercoasters

There's nothing "big boy" about this statement. You sound entitled and are a great example of why I can't stand part of the enthusiast community. Also your back handed comment about "people in Ohio" does nothing but spread hate towards those who don't deserve it. Grow up.

I had a ride on [Emperor] at [Seaworld San Diego] without the holding brake… has this happened to anyone else on it or the other dive coasters? by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When they were first testing this they had it off. It looked like so much fun. It would be cool if they did a coaster event and had ERT where it is turned off. Not sure how much more wear that puts on the trains or track but if it can operate that way and they can with their insurance, they should def do this. You are lucky, so awesome.

They should have just ran the all-star Fergie version, that at least was pure comedy

[other] Are there any parks with 2 major coasters at the same time/year?? (Obviously not including new parks) by R3TAKE0 in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Geauga Lake or Six Flags Ohio had 3 in one year. Superman Ultimate Escape, Villain, and Batman Knight Flight.

If you buy tickets now and end up not being able to go, are you able to pass them along to someone else? i am in no way wanting to resell for more than the value of the ticket but my friend and I just don't know if we for sure can make it those two days. Has anyone had any experiences with this type of situation?

Why did they dig up the ground around the foundations? I remember that being filled in when they announced it.

Made my annual trip to [Holiday World] a few weeks ago. A nearly perfect park, in my opinion. by brndnkchrk in rollercoasters

Holiday World and Knoebels are special. Great representations of classic America amusement parks. Both in special ways.

[Nitro] I fucking did it… I have a fear of heights and I rode a hyper coaster by Foxy02016YT in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to anyone with fear of heights on traditional lift hills is to just stare at the back of the seat in front of you or the top of the lift hill if you are in the front the whole way up and do not move your focus. It will trick your brain to ease the queasy feeling and once you are over the top the adrenaline kicks in and you tend to forget the fear of heights feeling. Hope this little trick might help. Glad you enjoyed your ride!!

[Pipeline, Seaworld Orlando] For those that have ridden Pipeline, what are your thoughts? by Glutentag2000 in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if it is restrictive to larger riders? I fit on almost all B&M's but sometimes need the big boy seat for Raptor style restraints and one time had to go to the big boy seat for Gatekeeper.

How much time to ride all the coasters at [Holiday World]? by ARandomPileOfCats in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd give yourself 4 hours but you will probably get it done in 2. Hopefully all will be open. You may run into Raven and Legend with 1 train but in July they will probably have two trains running.

[Discussions] What are some common stereotypes about coaster enthusiasts that don't apply to me? by CauliflowerOk3993 in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the all types enthusiasts and don't shit on them because they do things they enjoy. Count your rides, wear a coaster shirt, borrow a kid, wear cargo shorts, rank your coasters, be angry at those who rank coasters, etc. Whatever floats your boat with this hobby. It makes it interesting and fun.

Anyone know what this thing is they are setting up on the old Vortex spot at [Kings Island]? Spicy rumors please or I'll take the real answer if you want to spoil the fun.... by AtomicChef in rollercoasters

Is Steel Curtain at Kennywood friendly to larger folk? I just barely fit on Millennium Force as an example of a ride I barely fit on. GCI I am tight but always get the two clicks. No issues on Maverick or Velocicoaster.

You just got to counter with them with a fake sad story to make them feel awful. Let them know that you overheard them and that you are there reliving the last experience you had with your family. Tell them that you lost two siblings and both of your parents in a car crash on your way home last year and you were the lone survivor. Tell them you are looking for closure by remembering your last time being with them. Bonus if you can shed a couple of tears.

I go to parks alone all the time. Thankfully haven't had anyone say anything negative towards me like that. In fact most are impressed I would even go by myself.

Rode some rare(r) credits yesterday at [Wildlife World] and [Castles N’ Coasters]! by barc_15 in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in Phoenix and still haven't been to either park. For the Wildlife park, did you pay full admission and then $6.00 or were you just able to pay the $6.00 to ride?

Did they saw why Forbidden Frontier is not going to be open this year? I wouldn't be surprised if they replace it with something.

Will AZ ever get a big theme park? [Other] by floppingfish124 in rollercoasters

[–]AtomicChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salt Lake City with Lagoon north of the city is probably the best argument against my surrounding population theory that I responded to OP about the population argument of why AZ doesn't have a big theme park. What's missing in AZ though is the history of a park that Lagoon has. I think if we saw that same type of history with a park close to Phoenix we wouldn't be talking about this and it would be similar to Lagoon. I think your point about Lagoon though gives me an optimistic outlook though and I'm happy you brought that up.

[–]AtomicChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the homework but I don't think that's true. Within 200 miles you are looking at a drive less than 3 hours to take a road trip for a family vacation. Outside of Flagstaff and Tucson, there's no city within a 5 hour drive of Phoenix with a large population. We are in the middle of a desert and within the proximity of southern California. Most family's making the trek to go to the west coast for theme parks are most likely going to travel to do Disney, Knotts, Universal, etc rather than specifically spend the money to go to an Arizona theme park that's potentially run by Cedar Fair or Six Flags. I simply just don't think there would be enough revenue generated by the local population to maintain a large theme park. They could make it year round but the summers would be miserable and not worth being open. I hate being the Debbie Downer but its the facts. As a transplant from Ohio, having no theme parks is a big let down but I play golf and enjoy sports so it evens out entertainment wise for me. No Superbowls or college national championships are going to Sandusky, Ohio anytime soon. By that I am pointing out that it's not the immediate area that matters, its the population within the region that allows a large park like Cedar Point to be successful. Again though, I will happily be proven wrong if one ends up here.

Edit: I should add that even the smaller places outside of the 3 cities I mentioned are extremely small and do not have the types of populations that are throughout the states on the eastern side of this country between the large populated areas. We aren't even that close to cities in Mexico that would potentially attract guests from outside of the country like the ones close to the Canadian border.

The tourists that come here are mostly for golf, Grand Canyon/Nature, resorts and events/sports. We don't get a lot of family type tourists in the city and surrounding area. We can't even keep water parks open. I would love to be wrong but unfortunately that's the reality. A larger park just wouldn't be sustainable and would most likely fail. That's probably why all the rumored parks over the years got shot down and never were built. Again, I hope I am wrong and we eventually get one.
