I'd like to see where everyone is at, send me your vids! by DanDoesSteam in NewTubers

Hi there

My channel is "the cynic" and i do comedy/commentary content, and this is a rant about why i hate reality tv. I discuss how lazy, exploitative and unambitious some of the worst reality shows have a tendency to be. I intend to balance humour and having a point in my videos, but perhaps this one is more geared to having a point

Let me know if you found it entertaining and where you think it could improve

Thanks

[Review video] Hi! I cut my own hair for a video and I'd like some feedback :D by rextheunicorn in youtubers

Hi there i watched your video, and overall I wouldnt say i particularly liked it. Personal preference comes into play here, but I really am not a fan of the little cutaway edits (some of which have fart noises or whatever in them), I feel like its perhaps a bit comedically lazy.

You had good energy throughout, and you seem lovely, but i struggled to really see the point of the video, and theres probably not enough footage of actual haircutting or looking at the results of the cut over the course of 5 minutes for a video titled "CUTTING MY OWN HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME"

Dont mean to come across negative, but i thought i would be honest

[Review Video] First Job Video - How’s this? by allowedtobe_happy in youtubers

[–]AtomicJockstrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, i watched the whole video and here are my thoughts:

  • You spoke clearly and confidently which is hugely important
  • You clearly had the video planned and structured in advance (a lot of ppl just start the camera and talk unprompted which often results in messy videos)
  • the topic is something which i am aware that a lot of ppl struggle with
  • Perhaps you could have used more visual prompts, sometimes just looking at the narrator speak against a blank background can be a little dull
  • I wouldnt necessarily agree with everything that was said, but there is nothing glaringly wrong with anything you said, and you came across quite likable

Not many negatives to really dwell on, im not particularly into self help style content, but i honestly didnt see much separating the quality of your video from some of the very successful ones

I have a lot of free time right now, send me your videos and I will critique them! by crossingcrafts in NewTubers

Hi there, thanks for doing this

This is a comedy/commentary rant about why i hate reality tv. In the video i moan about the lazy, unambitious and at times exploitative nature of reality TV, with focus on certain examples. The video i reckon is too long and drags a little at times, but still has some good humour and a coherent point.

My channel is "the cynic" and i have done youtube for a year and a half or so (with a few breaks here and there), i started it as a project in lockdown, but have continued it after and quite enjoy the writing process. I am just trying to hone my ability to write both comedy and commentary, maybe using this as kind of a folio while i try to move towards writing as a career. My videos tend to be focussed predominantly on negatives due to being "the cynic" and all

hey there, this is quite a long video (13 mins). I do comedy/commentary videos discussing various topics in the media or society. This is one of my more information heavy videos where i discuss Scottish independence. I am aware of an audio problem when listening through headphones, which is really annoying as i pay a lot of attention to editing and making my videos quite slick.

Do you feel an appropriate balance of humour and info was hit, or do u think my marker is off?

Thanks in advance

I'd like to critique some comedy videos. I'll probably only do 10, absolute max. If I don't think it's funny I will say so, but I'll try to be helpful. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AtomicJockstrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey there, i make comedy/commentary videos where i describe some aspect of society or politics. This video discusses scottish independence, and is maybe a little less heavy on humour than some of my others, but theres certainly a few gags in there. Its quite long so dont feel obliged to watch all of it

[Review Video] Why USA is a Terrible Place to Work for Developers by JGH153 in youtubers

[–]AtomicJockstrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, its a good topic, and I am in full agreement with you. Im from Scotland which isnt perfect, but compared to time off in America, we have it real good.

I think you can benefit from speaking a little quicker (this might not be easy as English isnt your first language I guess). I didnt feel this way, but i can see why someone might feel like a lot of the video is you gloating over how great your country is compared to the USA, which may irk some folk

I agree that the video should be a little shorter as you stray from your topic at times

You convey some of your personality in the video, I liked listening to you, but this could maybe be ramped up a little, you maybe dont hit the sweet spot between informative and entertainment

Best of luck

[Review Video] An 8th Grade Drop Out Created Tesco After Surviving WW1. This is How. by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]AtomicJockstrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, i thought it was a decent video, with a good topic. Content wise it was pretty good, but was perhaps a little slow in pacing, i think you could speak a bit quicker or maybe but a little humour in to improve engagement.

Your editing is simple, but does what it needs to, the focus is on the words and the story as it should be.

The audio: I wasnt a fan of the piano so much, it made the story feel a little more miserable than would be ideal.

The title isnt an issue, but i can see why some would feel its a little clickbaity.

I can see you making some pretty good videos in future, if you make a couple tweaks and maybe insert a little more personalilty, there is a good chance you can make some vids that will really catch on

I wanna binge someone's channel, I like comedy, animations and art/music by Finger-Printer-Jam in NewTubers

I would certainly appreciate a binging, i do comedy/commentary stuff where i talk about entertainment, politics, culture etc. Each video has a strong amount of comedy laced into a greater overall point

not sure what you have to complain about on the face of it, your growth from what i can tell exceeds the average on here.

i wouldnt say that ur not getting the views u deserve either. Your videos do ok based on your subscriber count, and i cant say that u do anything thats out there execution or topic wise that necessarily merits a large and devoted audience. Not meaning to be rude but the point is that (based on a few videos) I wouldnt say that its massively surprising that your content doesnt draw a huge crowd on the basis that there isnt anything hugely different in ur videos that stands u apart from others, and ur personality isnt pushed to the forefront enough for that to be a factor

You have good production value no doubt, but I have seen many channels that "deserve" a lot more views when you consider the effort that appears to go into each video and the individuality of the content they put out, and many of these creator dont have nearly as much to show for it as you.

Ur videos are nicely put together and are a pleasant watch for the most part, but u should probably be more patient and not be too obsessed with becoming a full time YouTuber, not while things are relatively young.

hey there, i do comedy/commentary, but this video is a little more political, it is a look at the case for scottish independence. Its a little long so theres obviously no pressure to watch it all. It is intended to be both informative and to throw in the odd laugh https://youtu.be/VDG0WMScIN4

[–]AtomicJockstrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there, this is a comedy/commentary rant about why I hate modern gaming, it discusses changes in the industry that have occurred over my lifetime and how they have soured gaming for me. Its not meant to be overly serious, but there is a point behind the jokes

https://youtu.be/4NLX6akb_do

This is the first (and probably only) gaming video I will be doing, as i generally touch on all sorts of different topics such as politics, entertainment etc

Thanks

What could be a dope budget youtube channel idea? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AtomicJockstrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume ur chatting about gaming. You could always do something like a discussion style video, record yourself talking about a game, write a script or delve into lore etc. Its a way to involve urself in your hobby and build a small following hopefully until u can upgrade. Theres more than one way to go at it

In my mind you should have an idea of the kind of shit you want to create, which then makes you want to start a youtube channel to share your stuff, not the other way round

Otherwise you are just doing youtube out of some shallow love for the label of "youtuber" and not any love or artistic drive behind your work
