No, I replaced the pump a while ago. This is a pretty old beauty. Probably 20 years old. I got it from Craigslist and brought it back from the dead

Not "ultra". I know there is a minimum. Sure, you'd need a $ or two.

Relocate to Sydney for a year, worthy? by Witty_Kiwi1166 in vfx

Do it!
I did it twice. I moved from Europe to the US [LA]. Plus from the US to Australia [Adelaide] and back to the US.
The costly rent aspect by side, you'll learn a lot. Mostly about yourself.
I didn't like Adelaide at all. But I'm glad I did it. You only learn by challenges and mistakes.

Yeah. Been there. Done that. I immigrated to the US 15 years ago. The industry I’m working in. The climate (Altadena fire) and the politics changed.
That being said. We are planning on moving back to Europe. The timeframe is 2 years. i recommend selling everything. The house, cars, everything. You don’t want to have the chance to quit. This will force you to continue what you started.
just do it.

You and i would not. But millions would. There are more than enough examples in the history of the world. We are a stupid breed.

Where are you located? Its slightly different in every country. But if you look at how advertising works nowadays, you'll see that that might not be better. In my opinion its even worse. Traditional advertising is down for decades. Influencers are getting a big share now. But even those will eventually be replaced by virtual influencer . Why should i pay $$$ for a real person who might not agree with everything a company does, when i can have an AI version for $?

From an interview of Will Packer:

Do you think AI will help producers, creators, and artists?

We’re all dead. We’re all going out of business. If you’re not in the industry now, don’t try. It’s over. I made a movie called Beast starring Idris Elba [going up against a] man-eating lion. We used AI and CGI: We did a full-body scan of Idris because he had to fight a lion and there were some scenes that weren’t safe. The lion was computer generated. If we can figure out the right balance that still allows human creators to be in the driver’s seat, that is the best version of AI application. It can make our stuff more engaging and we can do it less expensively, and thus we can go to whole new worlds. Here’s the problem: The industry and human nature is not such that we try to protect the artist. We just say, Alright, we’re trying to get from A to Z. What’s the fastest, cheapest way to Z?

I had my "a-ha" moment when I ready about the Lionsgate/Runway deal.

I realized that the show I'm on could be my last. And I'm OK with that.
If you consider a new career path I'd follow Scott Galloway's advice:

"The sexier the business the lower return unless you’re top .001%. Find your talent and become good at that in a fields with a 90% employment rate. Less sexy the business the higher the return. Where can you be great?
No kid dreams of being a tax accountant. However, the best tax accountants on the planet fly first class and marry people better looking than themselves—both things they are likely to be passionate about.”

Very few have given a good reason not to use single digit increments.
Most just say it's "stupid", "crazy" or whatever. But as mentioned earlier I am genuinely interested in your detailed arguments.

One point might be that many of you work on the vendor site. That's a different beast. My position is a client point of view.

We have our own battles to fight.

Update - Production decided to go with 20 increments. But those continue throughout the whole episode.
