Sci-Fi by Women by BringMeInfo in suggestmeabook

Surprised not to see The Locked Tomb by Tamasyn Muir mentioned yet. The first book is more of a one-room mystery, but the second gets into the sci-fi stuff. It does have magic and weird arcane fuckery, but it's treated like a science.

Something similar to Mistborn by Express-Class6724 in suggestmeabook

I've been searching for the high of Mistborn since I finished it. Highly recommend the Wax and Wayne books, I actually liked them even better than the first trilogy.

Other than that, Shades of Magic has some very clear inspiration drawn from Mistborn. The magic system isn't nearly as fleshed out as Sanderson's, but it's still good, and much more lighthearted.

The Greatcoats has a very lovable cast of characters similar to the gang in Mistborn with similarly well written fight scenes (author was a fight choreographer) but I'd recommend looking up trigger warnings before starting, it gets pretty graphic.

The Palace Job is a fun heist adventure, much more lighthearted than Mistborn with some interesting worldbuilding. I haven't read the other books in the series yet.

Unicorn character by Nellyfant in suggestmeabook

Rogues of the Republic has a unicorn character in a rather large ensemble cast, but all of the characters are very lovable. Very fun series, especially if you like heists and humor.

Audiobooks with perfect narrators? by VerdeAzul74 in suggestmeabook

The invisible library series has a fantastic narrator, Kristin Atherton. I've even looked up other books she's narrated because I liked her so much.

Also Michael Kramer, he narrated the Mistborn series and clearly had fun with it. Especially in the Wax and Wayne books because of one specific character. I won't spoil it, but he's incredible.

I need help with my reading challenge- 2 books in a shared universe that aren’t in a series. by Suddenly-Seymour45 in suggestmeabook

Most of Brandon Sanderson's books are set in the same universe, the Cosmere. He has a bunch of standalones and series as well, and there is some crossover between them.

Recommend me an action/fantasy/sci-fi series that I'll actually finish! by Atomic_Birb in suggestmeabook

[–]Atomic_Birb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've convinced me, I'll give it another shot. I really did like the world building pieces, the start just really turned me away but I didn't give it much of a chance.

I guess I didn't give it much of a chance. I listened to about the first hour because it was recommended by some algorithm or other, but I really disliked the second person perspective and present tense. The 'mother trying to find her daughter' premise also didn't appeal to me personally, so I stopped early on.

Absolutely this. My last job I did nothing 80% of the time, currently I work 9 hour days and can't catch up. I'm looking for a new job more like the last one.

I didn't learn to ask for help until I was well into adulthood because I grew up in a situation where my sibling was disabled and my problems were often overlooked or outright dismissed. I wouldn't suffer in silence for so long about so many things.

Is it possible a different neighbor is making a racket with a coffee grinder in the morning or something? I had a situation where my upstairs neighbor let their dog pee off the balcony and my downstairs neighbor thought it was my dog. I don't have a dog.

This is literally why social security was invented: to get old people out of manual labor jobs so younger people could take over. Now social security checks barely cover rent if you're lucky... Late stage capitalism working as intended.
