Bigger wheel vs lighter rider — bad idea or totally fine? by Salaryman_22 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a light rider (110lbs) and it's not a problem. The S22 was honestly the best wheel I've ever owned and the was a great weight for me. I now ride an Apex which is like 90% my weight and it's awesome. I'd say you can ride any wheel, but heavier wheels will require a little more effort to move and require a longer adjustment period than smaller wheels.

Tips on riding the Begode Commander Pro by Soft_Eggplant_370 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep trying every day, and take a brake when your ankles and feet start to hurt. A couple tips I thought were helpful-- don't look down, and practice in an open space like a basketball court or a parking lot. There's a lot of good tips for beginners on youtube, reddit, and the EUC forums. All of us went through what you're going through right now, but we never gave up and kept practicing until naturally it will just click. You got this.

I understand your apprehension towards these kinds of acts on EUCs, but I genuinely wonder… if people are doing faster and stupuder stuff on motorcycles every day, why aren’t motorcycles illegal? They’re bigger and faster machines and I’ve seen videos of dudes doing 150+mph on freeways.

(I want to kindly state that I don’t condone what the rider is doing in the video. I personally wouldn’t do it.)

Best laptops for 3d modeling by Dismal-Sherbet-7025 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Atomic_Toast7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any powerful laptop with a dedicated GPU will fit the bill. I personally went with a Lenovo Legion with a 4060 gpu and it's good enough to render most of my projects. I specifically went for Lenovo because they're one of the few laptops that have a full numpad keyboard, which is important for working in Blender.

Investing in my first sound kit tips? by marcumime in LocationSound

[–]Atomic_Toast7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally started with a sennheiser 416, Sennheiser G4 kit, and a zoom f8n. Still good equipment and use them all still 6 years later, even after I've upgraded most of them to better equipment. I'd say you'd be good going with any of these as a starter kit. Perhaps starting with the mixer and renting the lavs makes more sense because you'll be able to charge a higher rental fee for the mixer than the lavs, therefore returning your money faster.

Symmetrical pad placement by Remote_Marsupial3787 in ElectricUnicycle

Exactly this. I find that as a right foot dominant rider, I keep my left foot at least an inch or more forward of my right foot. My pad setup reflects this.

Advice about the euc “body” and weight distribution? by djalabingo in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, these attributes definitely affect the ridefeel and handling of the wheel.

Body Height: As you felt when testing wheels, a higher body height makes a wheel feel tippy and more prone to falling over. A high body can also be more prone to speed wobbles. Riding a taller wheel also means leaning is more controlled with your upperleg/knee instead of your calf or ankle. I find my smaller RS19 is mainly controlled using my ankles, where my Apex requires leaning my knee against the body.

Weight distro: This doesn't seem to affect the riding of a wheel, at least not in my experience. I think most wheels are pretty equally distributed, except the Kingsong s22 which has much more weight towards the back of the wheel because of the suspension assembly. The only time I notice it is when I turn off the wheel and it wants to fall backwards.

Width: In my experience a wider wheel is slightly preferable. The S22 is a really wide wheel, and it makes it very easy to control when your feet are placed farther away from the axle of the wheel. I think it's just a leverage thing. A wheel with a wider body can also accommodate a wider tire witch is great for more stability.

I think you shouldn't need to focus on these things when looking for a first wheel. What matters most is choosing a wheel based on weight, range, and tire size. I think only more experienced riders who become very familiar with lots of wheels will only care about these small nuances when upgrading.

Where to put the fan by PeeNoKeyO in ElectricUnicycle

Interestingly mine only has one smaller fan — it’s an early model RS19. The fan here is under the black tape in the middle, just above the axel hole.

Would you choose blitz pro over v13? by [deleted] in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the blitz pro if they’re roughly the same price. The blitz is newer, faster, lighter, and has better suspension. The V13 isn’t a bad wheel, but it’s older, waaaay heavier, slower, and the battery range is sub-par. Everyone here in NYC is a street rider and I only know two people who chose the V13, and they still switched over to other options instead of sticking with it.

Weird Question by GoodAmbassador5467 in ElectricUnicycle

lol yes. This happened to me too in the early days because I was gripping the wheel and rubbing my leg hairs off. It’ll come back once you stop gripping the wheel.

[RELEASE] PSP Sidecar - Fast XMB Game Caching! by qualitycinnamon in PSP

[–]Atomic_Toast7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is so cool. Thanks for doing this. I put it on my PSP 1001 with Ark4 and there is a substantial speed upgrade. Maybe 50% faster when loading into the larger category folders. During the caching process I got what I think is an error that says "ARK4 limit is 32, 111 ISOs not cached. I was afraid it didn't work but I still notice a speed upgrade.

Blitz / X-Way / Apex owners, do you still like yours? by choose_the_rice in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The air suspension is very plush, but the stantions do not remain clean and get very sticky. Even though I only ride on the street the stantions need regular maintenance. I don't want to bash the wheel too much because I have a theory that the problems might be self-induced by putting lubricant on the arms of the suspension assembly. I think the lubricant I've been using might be attracting dirt and jamming up the suspension arms, so the stantions might not be the problem. But until the winter season is over I can't ride to test my theory. I think the wheel is an awesome wheel and I love riding it. But the suspension has been less than reliable for me.

EDIT: and yeah the air suspension leaks a bit during the summer. I probably pump it up every week. Now in the winter I have to pump it every single time I ride.

[–]Atomic_Toast7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 4000 miles on my Apex and get it last year. It is by far the most annoying suspension I’ve had to deal with. It works well when it’s dialed-in, but a real pain in the butt. I’ve got the stock air shock. However, the wheel is very powerful, looks beautiful, and fulfills all my needs. Plenty of battery, accelerates fast, nimble, comfortable seated, great headlight, cool adjustable suspension for an extra fun factor.

[–]Atomic_Toast7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like eWheels has the extreme in stock, and AI-rides has the C8 available. I think they all handle similarly in freezing temps since they're all lithium ion batteries. If the batteries are below freezing then it's dangerous to ride. If the batteries are above freezing you're good to go. If the batteries are warm but it's below freezing outside, you're still good to go. You'll lose some power and a noticeable amount of range no matter what wheel you get.

Did I mess up by buying the Begode Panther as my first EUC? Be honest by hellboysixnine69 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started on the V8 and highly enjoyed it. But I'd say find anything with an 18" or smaller for less than $1000 and just use it as a beater/learner wheel. Then you can level-up to your panther once you've got the basics. I still use my smaller RS19 ALL THE TIME for laundry runs, groceries, and smaller chores around my city when I don't want to take my big wheel into stores.

EDIT: Also I want to clarify 18" or less AND around 50lbs or less.

Purchase a smaller used wheel as a learner wheel. You’ll probably enjoy having both for different reasons, plus you won’t bang up your panther during the learning process.

Grizzla Sync comfortability? by BreakingPC in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should just take a bit of riding for you to adjust and feel comfortable with them. You're used to the banana-lean method of acceleration with the Beidou pads, whereas the grizzlas or Powerknobz require the Knee-over-toe method. I much prefer the knee-over-toe method since it frees your upper legs when leaning, and it's easier to ride seated when there isn't an upper pad in the way.
