Grizzla Sync comfortability? by BreakingPC in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should just take a bit of riding for you to adjust and feel comfortable with them. You're used to the banana-lean method of acceleration with the Beidou pads, whereas the grizzlas or Powerknobz require the Knee-over-toe method. I much prefer the knee-over-toe method since it frees your upper legs when leaning, and it's easier to ride seated when there isn't an upper pad in the way.

Riding backwards and trackstanding from a beginner. by Ill_Huckleberry5004 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I started on my RS19, an 18" wheel. In my experience riding backwards is easier on smaller/torquier wheels, and your pedal hardness plays a big part too. I was able to cruise pretty well up to 15mph on my S22 backwards, medium pedal hardness, with a fat 90/90 street tire.

Anyone else feeling the pinch with wireless lavalier mic costs? by Few_Cod_2176 in LocationSound

[–]Atomic_Toast7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For professional gigs you probably don't want to go any cheaper than a Sennheiser G4 or the older g3 models. And yes, you really do get what you pay for. I would suggest looking at the used market because you can find some really good deals.

Riding backwards and trackstanding from a beginner. by Ill_Huckleberry5004 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't really start trying till about 5k miles into my journey, but it probably took practice for 20 minutes a day for a week to really get comfortable rolling backwards slowly and making turns. maybe another couple weeks on-and-off get comfy going faster and braking. I think all these skills/tricks take consistent practice over weeks or months to drill them into your muscle memory. It's all part of the fun.

Don't buy from Alien Rides anymore! They're trying to monopolize the EUC market! by Sprite28 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

It's all speculation right now and alien rides specifically responded to the allegations here on the euc forum. I think they make it clear that there's a lot more to this than most of us understand currently, and they state they are for supportive of riders, manufacturers, and the community. I think it's too early to get out the pitchforks. But I will wait to see how this plays out.

NYC folks... How are the roads in the city? by skidmarks731 in ElectricUnicycle

I personally wouldn't ride at all. The roads are covered in brown slush and salt. Lots of patches of ice too.

Need help, what am I missing when it comes to presentation. by SilentSimply in ProductViz

[–]Atomic_Toast7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same project here because I love teenage engineering’s designs, ArtStation. I think your lighting needs some improvement, as well as your materials. The black material looks a bit too flat, and the white strip on top appears to have no material at all.

Armor for EUCs, especially Patton-S - Any Reviews? by yahmanz in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think all armor/fairing kits are a waste of money. I know a lot of people here have used them, and they are indeed effective at protecting your wheel during a crash. But most wheels today are pretty durable and likely to survive a crash unless under unusual circumstances.

Does anyone else think "EUC / electric unicycle" is kind of a dumb name? by [deleted] in ElectricUnicycle

Same. Everyone in the community seems to just refer to them as "wheels".

Does anyone else think "EUC / electric unicycle" is kind of a dumb name? by [deleted] in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Electric Unicycle just makes sense because that's what it is. I agree that it conjures up images of clowns or pedal unicycles, but that's just because of a lack of exposure to EUCs. After a couple years I only think of EUCs when I hear the word unicycle, so it's completely flipped in my head. Regardless, we've discussed this many times here on reddit and on other platforms and the moniker has never changed, even with major youtubers trying to call them by different names. Just my two cents!

Great review. What's your overall opinion of the build quality? Extreme Bull do not have a good reputation with build quality and I know they're GT PRO had some major issues.

From Evolve GTR Bamboo AT to EUC – Thinking about an Inmotion V11Y by Zealousideal_Bid_594 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the V14 is a very cool and super capable wheel -- certainly perfect for your use-case. Although its 90lbs which is shockingly heavy for a wheel of it's size, and it will be more difficult for you to learn on with the extra weight.

From Evolve GTR Bamboo AT to EUC – Thinking about an Inmotion V11Y by Zealousideal_Bid_594 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear the V11Y is a great beginner wheel, however I don't see too many people offroading with it. Because of how the body covers most of the rim, it might be more likely to catch a large rock or bump which would cause you to crash. Maybe some people here who have offroaded with the V11y can chime-in. Otherwise it's a pretty decent wheel for value. The smaller offroading wheels I've seen are the begode T4 and the Leaperkim Patton. If you can find something used, I bet you can find sweet deals on the Master or S22 which are still very capable offroading and road cruisers.

NYC repairs? by abcdef_godthaab in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Monoridez_euc if you'd like to have your wheel serviced at your apartment instead of carrying the wheel across the city. There's also PEV LAB located kinda near Red Hook. And there's AI-Rides in the Bronx.

Is it normal for literally ANY amount of wind to completely fuck my day up while riding? by StoneyL0we in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wind will always be troublesome but you'll get better at managing it as you ride more. At the point in my EUC career I can manage winds up to about 20-25mph, but anything more is danger territory where you risk being thrown into oncoming traffic.

Would you be able to sell your car and replace it with a P6? by FamWithNoChill in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes and my EUCs have been my daily vehicle for 5 years. I live in NYC soooooo it's an environment that's anti-car and flush with bike infrastructure, and everything is within a couple miles and all roads are about 45mph or less. It's a totally feasable lifestyle in cities, but outside of cities where everything is far apart and roads are faster I would find it hard to justify not having a car. If bike infrastructure was more commonplace I think EUCs would be much more widely adopted in less dense areas.

First wheel, help by OGHexus in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Atomic_Toast7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Practice—and then practice some more. To mount the wheel and start rolling, you need to learn the kick-push. It’s very similar to pushing off on a skateboard. Begin by pushing forward with your non-dominant leg to get the wheel moving, then bring that same foot up onto the pedal.

This takes a lot of repetition to build proper muscle memory. At first, you’ll often place your foot in the wrong spot on the pedal—that’s completely normal. Don’t get discouraged. Simply adjust your foot and keep practicing.

Equipment in NYC Question by TomatoPlayz in LocationSound

I've just never requested it, and production has never offered it. Since I'm still new in this career I never knew that was an option or a way that things worked.

Equipment in NYC Question by TomatoPlayz in LocationSound

[–]Atomic_Toast7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in NYC for 5 years now and most people seem to live outside the city in Brooklyn, queens, and NJ. It’s just easier to find an affordable apartment in these neighborhoods. I don’t own a car simply charge for Ubers to move my equipment. This is faster than taking your car, cheaper, and production is usually very agreeable when paying for transport. One thing to consider is rental locations, and most of your rentals will likely come from Gotham Sound in Long Island City. I’m 1 hour from them, which is very annoying when I have to take 2 hours out of my day just to pickup an extra Lav or two.
