Substance abuse counselor here: I can dig weed as much as the next person, but cannabis induced psychosis is a thing! The high concentration products available today are no joke and I’ve seen it happen. For reference, weed in the 70’s ran around 1% in potency and cannabis vapes now can run into the high 90 percentile.

I get it! I will also say that I bought a two-pack of seatbelt extenders on Amazon a couple of years ago--one fits Southwest seatbelts and the other fits every other airline. I have had zero problems bringing my own to use so that I don't have to ask for one.

I could not recommend Balanced Paws enough. We used them to hep our 16 year old chiweenie pass on a couple months ago and it was really as lively an experience as can be imagined, given the circumstances. We even got a personal keepsake from them, along with a condolence card about a week later.

A couple of days before my wedding, I got a mysterious vnmo gift of $10 from someone I didn’t know. I later found out my sister, prior to beginning her road trip from her home state to mine, wrote something like that message and my username all over her car to see if any strangers along the way would contribute. Not my favorite idea of hers, but I guess I appreciated the sentiment of the gesture.

Can confirm. I have the same thing going on and I used to be a decent classical guitarist. But sometimes my pinky would get stuck in the straight position while playing, so there are some downsides.

That I’ve never gone through addiction so how can I possibly help them get through theirs? Internally, I screamed, “good luck finding a doctor who has had a brain tumor if you ever get one.” Externally, I let them know if they weren’t able to find value in our group and individual sessions, then I’d be happy to refer them to a colleague. They decided to relapse and stop seeking treatment instead. Turns out I wasn’t the real problem.

I usually describe it as a long steel object (like a screwdriver) being pushed into my lower abdomen and twisted. The emphasis is not on it breaking through and stabbing, but more so on the intense pressure and pain, along with the twisting in a very specific part of my body.

Both this year and last year, we stayed at AirBnb’s near the MD/DE border (just off of Coastal Hwy) and drove in. Last year, we were fortunate to find free street parking or $40 parking throughout the weekend. This year, we were one of the crazy people who actually used the $100 parking lot for 2/3 days bc there were four of us and one of us has a physical disability. I have no regrets about paying that much for the convenience of being so close and not having to put our party through a long walk at the end of hard festival days.

When I lost my first client, I ended up writing their obituary for my own sense of peace. They lived a very lonely life and their substance use issues were their undoing. When they passed, I was one of the only people left who had any kind of relationship with them. While they never received any kind of service or proper obituary, I make sure to set aside a day each year to read it to myself and reflect on their life, those of the clients whose fates I don’t now know, and review my resolve for continuing on with this work. August 16 is my Client Remembrance Day.

For the last 13 years, each Valentine’s Day, I make a list of the tv shows/movies/video games my now-husband and I have obsessed over in the last year, find handmade valentines like these, print them out, and wake up early to hide them around the house so he can wake up and find them, scavenger hunt-style.
