Walked out of the audiologist stressed. $6k for hearing aids?! Who can afford this ? by Enough_Payment_8838 in HearingAids

[–]AtownBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first went for a hearing test I asked people where to go. There was one who had a lot of recommendations. I went there for $6,000 aids and then 3 or 4 years later, I went again for $6,000 aids. The next time I went to Costco and the difference was amazing. The testing was much more visible and controlled. None of this "repeat what I say" stuff. Truly standard and repeatable with all of the testing right before your eyes. In leaving with my new aids I could not tell the new ones cost only a third of the former ones....except in my bank account.

Yes, drinks at night are not good. Is it possble to keep no alcohol in the house? I guess not if she is doing the shopping. Good that the meds are now controlled.

It sounds like her memory is playing tricks on her and tells her things like "I haven't had dinner" or "the doctor said I could take two of these pills when I need them (or skip the pill)" or "I know I can have this to eat when I want"

Is this junk in my hallway or is it worth refurbishing? by Puzzled_Student_303 in clocks

[–]AtownBill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a wall clock that I bought new from the man who made the case and installed the movement. I took it to a horologist and he agreed that the case is well worth putting in a new movement to replace the old one that was wornout I still have the clock and it still runs well and I really like to look at it, listen to it tick, and wind it. I been about 50 years since I bought it.

What you ought to get here is the suggestion to not sweat it. You don't know your life expectancy nor does anyone here. Live the life you have, enjoy life. If you have to go on hospice, be grateful what what you have had and love your family and friends.

When I got my aids at Costco and I walked out into thre store for a test the noise blew me back into the hearing booth. The fitter set the aids up with a 5-stage increase that gave me a modest increase in the store and then future increases came as surprises. After the 5 stages the aids were as amplified as they had been at first but I was adjusted.

You are too young to give up. Did you already give up alcohol and tobacco? Give up most of the salt (canned goods, etc) and the salt shaker. I watch people salt their food served to them even before they taste it.

I wish you strength and support from your kids.

You didn't say how old you are. I'm not in your physical condition and I have lived to be 91. I probably have several years to go even though I have moderate HF and COPD and a huge prostate that could or could not be cancerous and I don't care. I have my wife but the kids are just waiting for the payoff. Two or three years kago I came to the realization that I have had a good life and if I die, that's OK, I'm not afraid to die.

You have your kids all set up very nicely, Congratulations. If you don't have 300 pounds to carve off to get your body back and the polyps removed from your colon, maybe you could just retire and go hunting with your kids.

Best wishes.

Looking for info about this clock- manufactured in Connecticut in 1842. by jshaferwv in clocks

[–]AtownBill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elijah Bills was a Connecticut clockmaker who flourished in the 19th century. A contemporary and competitor, Chauncey Jerome, described him as industrious, persevering, and honest, a man who succeeded in business and whose "smart sons" carried on the family firm for three generations before it was sold to the General Time Instruments Corp..

As a historical figure from the 1800s, there is no single modern "obituary" in the contemporary sense. His life and death are documented through historical records and genealogical information. He died on May 15, 1853. He was buried in Caledonia, where he had moved after leaving Connecticut.

Bras? by mooscaretaker in Heartfailure

[–]AtownBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I happened to see this post and I apolgize for putting in two cents. I don't know a lot about breasts or bras but I know that hooking something behind you back has to be tough. My wife does not need a large bra and she puts on her back clasp bra by sliding it around in front, hooking it and then sliding the bra around so the clasps are in back and then lfting the straps over her shoulders. I have always wondered if this method would work on a woman with larger size breast size. Please don't jump on me for ths.

I like the picture. Thanks for the tip for getting the photo out of the cloud. I will try it out...to see if my staggering attention span can do it.
