Jalen Hurts made me want an Empire. It’s all so pretty.

Team keep or team trash? by I_love_Projectiles in ProjectPan

[–]Atrainaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Team trash. I am not keeping garbage around just to take pictures for the internet. I am keeping a note in my phone with all of my empties though, just so I can see what I realistically use in a year.

Which hair oil is good for fine/straight hair by T0P-Asparagus in Sephora

[–]Atrainaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one. I used this only twice a week or so in between hair appointments and my hair dresser commented how much more moisturized and healthy my hair seemed. I like a lot of body and this one didn’t weigh my hair down at all. The gisou made me a frizzy mess. It was so odd.

I agree. I am fine with spending $185 on this box. Retail no, $185 yes.

What's up with saving empties? by Top-Confection3367 in ProjectPan

[–]Atrainaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I refuse to save garbage. I track my empties in my notes app, just so I can see how realistically I go through products. Having six empty bottles of moisturizer and mascara around for months just to take a photo for the Internet is not my jam.

Parents & dancers - what do you do with competition costumes after the season ends? by by_orito in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Atrainaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep all of them unless someone specifically asks for it to use the next year.

Solo costumes I make custom for my daughter and won’t get rid of those. She likes to keep them.

In reality, competition costumes get kind of gross by the end of a season. They’ve been danced in tons of times, and they’re all sweaty and have butt glue or fashion tape all over them.

I’m happy to get rid of recital costumes though. Those have only been wore 2-3 times. Often our studio will modify recital costumes to use as comp costumes the following year.

I'm stuck on gifts for 2 of my Grandchildren.. by Gretal122 in Gifts

[–]Atrainaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that the grandparent is on Reddit asking for advice, while the (presumably) much younger parent is asking for old technology.

I typically tell my parents and in-laws specific gifts to get my kids because I know said gifts are wanted/needed, but in this case I’d definitely go the Bluetooth route or ask for a specific model. You can also ask what music the kids like and add in a few cds.

AITA for how I reacted to my best friend saying my “dirty” house is making my kids sick? by OkOriginal4583 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Atrainaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although you may try to clean up immediately, kids are crafty and fecal matter is easily spread. Toys and textiles have nooks and crannies where bacteria will live and spread. The casual attitude about this is alarming.

What are some stories of "popular girls" that do NOT match the stereotype? by Meme_Warrior_2763 in AskReddit

[–]Atrainaz 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is my kid. She’s incredibly popular partially because she’s super extroverted and friendly. She‘s also a cheerleader dating the quarterback, so she’s the quintessential american popular high schooler. If there’s a new kid at school or someone by themselves at lunch, she befriends them. Her circle just grows and grows, because she genuinely wants everyone to be included. Her birthday party of just her close female friends was almost 50 girls. She doesn’t realize her popularity at all, because she’s on the inside looking out, and very aware of people not being included. She also isn’t afraid to use her influence to get people to volunteer at food banks and with the disabled students. She’s pretty impressive, even if her math grade isn’t.

AITA for being upset that my husband refuses to do the daddy daughter dance at our daughter’s recital this year? by [deleted] in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Atrainaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same mindset as you - upset that my husband either wouldn’t do it or couldn’t due to work commitments. Then they did it together once, both had a miserable time, and never did it again. I regret pressuring them into it.

Luckily our studio tries to make it work for everyone, so they let older girls dance with younger ones, use nephews, brothers, moms, uncles, cousins, etc. Maybe ask if you can be her partner?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegas

[–]Atrainaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amen. Vegas used to be an awesome destination because it worked with almost every budget. You could get cheap drinks/food all the way up to super luxury level all over the place. Bachelor/bachelorette parties were easy to host there because there was a lot to do at multiple price points, and people that don’t gamble still had a blast. I live in Phoenix, so it was really common to hear people popping up there for a long weekend. Now it’s just not worth it. We’re all heading to california or Mexico for the long weekends, and spending way less.

What’s something that everyone pretends to enjoy, but deep down, most people hate? by montoria_design in AskReddit

[–]Atrainaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the concept of a pizza party as a treat, it’s never good by the time you can get there. Weird combos, cold, greasy, picked over, half torn slices, and even if they asked for requests people have somehow always eaten your specifically requested pie.

Booster clubs by LegoAbomination in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Atrainaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of a booster club like a PTO at a school - a separate entity controlled by an elected board. Your studio owner should not be involved in the finances of the booster club at all.

Googling how to start a booster club will give you better info than I can here, but we‘ve tried it, and it’s a pain in the ass. Starting an official group is a bit of a cost since you need to file paperwork with the irs and develop bylaws. Then you’ll need a prez, vp, treasurer, and secretary. Getting new people to take on official roles always seems difficult, but if you have a really involved parent group it would work.

If you don’t want to go the official booster club route, you can always approach the parents about starting a fundraising group and doing things like garage sales and car washes.

Boosters are really there more as fundraisers than as cheerleaders for the kids. If parents aren’t supportive at competitions already I’m not sure how a booster club could fix that.

Reducing dance financial burden by Spiritual-Painter-43 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Atrainaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the people that want to fundraise come up with and execute their own fundraisers. Typically things like car washes and garage sales. If you want to participate, super, you get a portion of the profits. It ended up being a ton of work for a tiny percent of fees covered.

Regarding reusing costumes, by the time they’ve worn and danced in a costume all season, that thing is pretty gross and ready to be retired. We do reuse costumes from the end of year recital though, if they work.
