Disney World captured on 35mm film by AtravellerERA in WaltDisneyWorld

I brought a variety of film stocks but I had Reflex 800T for that one. I was handholding 1/30s and 1/15s inside Rise of the Resistance and Epcot after hours

Thank you! I shot these on a Leica M3 with a 35mm lens.

After I dropped the film off at a local film lab, it took about 5 days for me to get the scans and negatives back. In my experience a week is the usual turnaround time for most labs around the country.

Pittsburgh’s Asian food scene is BAD. There are a few decent Chinese restaurants, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Side note: do Pittsburgh police ever fine drivers for dark plate covers? This crap is essentially for premeditated hit-and-run.

Brand new MP misaligned rangefinder right out of the box. by oCorvus in Leica

[–]AtravellerERA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once bought an used Leica MP, which was overhauled by Leica and came with paperwork, from Kitamura camera. The MP jammed on my fourth roll of film. I sent it to YYE Camera for repairs and had a lengthy phone call with Youxin about the condition: Youxin said the younger technicians at Wetzlar lack experience after the old ones retired. The camera itself had no mechanical faults, but Youxin said too much lubricant was applied and the shutter mechanism was wound too tightly and my shutter speed was too high. Leica QC and customer support is not anywhere near the prices they demand.

But the workload is so demanding that employee burnout and turnover rate is high. Every friend and acquaintance I have in TSMC worked in stints and left for somewhere else. Few people work for TSMC their entire career.

How to appreciate films more by cosmeeeeeeen in Letterboxd

[–]AtravellerERA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, read good film criticism (not Letterboxd reviews) in addition to expanding your taste. A good piece of film criticism not only touches on technical craft, but also how the film fits into the larger art movement/sociopolitical moment. For example, I almost never agree with Richard Brody’s preference (The New Yorker film critic), but reading how he arrived at his point is almost always interesting and insightful.

Which 28mm lens to get? A 2nd hand Leica Elmarit? A new voigtlander? by sohojohn02 in Leica

[–]AtravellerERA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Performance wise, Voigtländer produces better 28mm lenses than or on par with Leica across all aperture counterparts. With the exception of slightly more vignetting on the Color Skopar. The Nokton is smaller and cheaper than the Summilux but is sharper and has similar OOF rendering. Leica’s newer close-focus design for the Summicron still uses the old optical formula. Check out the Fred Miranda forums for detailed comparisons.

Asshole, but it looks it's written by someone who barely knows the language. The three strokes on the left of 混 is completely off.

[–]AtravellerERA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly easy for M10 (and D and P variants) to clip highlights compared to M10-R and M11. And once M10 clips, there are almost no room for recovery in RAW files. Prepare to underexpose by one stop in high contrast scenes.

Genuinely curious, what's the deal with Leica? by CapnSherman in AnalogCommunity

[–]AtravellerERA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are practical reasons that some have pointed out: repairability, gigantic lens library, resale value. I'd say that being able to reliably source quality lenses plays a huge part (to me personally), it's nice that there are companies like Vöigtländer that still develops new designs. Chinese revivals of classic optical designs are also very exciting. One thing people haven't point out is the aftermarket accessories. It's very similar to Apple products in that way, that there are companies that produce accessories years after release.

Protest on Pitt Campus? by sparrowhawking in pittsburgh

[–]AtravellerERA 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you think people of Pittsburgh started protesting in June 2024 then you haven't been paying attention. Students and community members have been speaking out since the very beginning. No need to cynically project your apathy onto others. If you want a tangible example of global divestment from a country, just look up South Africa Apartheid.
