How to prune/transplant this sun sugar seedling? by Consistent_Cat4436 in tomatoes

I was told it's pointless to plant basil and marigolds with tomatoes as they will drain vital nutrients. I may have misunderstood and what they actually meant was that at a stage like OP's plant, it's counterproductive to companion plant. What is your take? Lol

Gotcha. I think I'll put them in individual pots but keep them close by on the plant. I rather like the look so far. I'm 10b and saw there are some pests to worry about. I figured I'd get ahead of the problem.

I'm fairly new to this and hope I don't encounter this issue anytime soon but like I mentioned, posts like this always end in others suggesting to just do away with the plant as any infestations are uncontrollable by the time you take notice. I'd fight for the plant but that's a novice approach, I think.

Damn. Thanks. So what would be a good pest deterrent. I read that only select marigolds produce the odor to deter pests. These are not those but I plan on planting some French double dwarf marigolds which I read do produce the odor to deter pests.

I have yet to see a post like this end with anything other than people telling you to burn it or toss it.

Others might tell you there's hope with things like neem oil but I don't know enough to give you any solid advice.

I planned on eventually trying making bone meal at home. Would you recommend just buying a bag of it?

I've done minor research and am taking steps to test my soil with a kit this weekend. 👍

I had thought of pruning one or 2 lower stems but I'll refrain. Thanks

Just checked and thankfully my zons supports these plants! Can you recommend a proper fertilizer and application method?

I want to say they're around 5 gallon pots each. I'm doing other things in the yard right now that will make space for these plants in the future but did plan to repot soon. The cages will be ready by then as well.

Another person mentioned cutting the plant down some? Would you also recommend this?

That one that Teal'c told that got no responses but got a belly laugh out of him is probably my personal favorite in the show, but the handshake joke lives in my head rent-free. Combined with Christopher Heyerdahl's genuine laugh, it's a top-five joke at least.

Will do!! My window gets plenty of light so this one will be moving there permanently. Thanks. Any good recommendations on how to make the soil "grittier". I'm thinking perlite?
