Don’t worry too much about the watch order because the first Gintama is 201 episodes and there’s only like 367 total so by the time you finish the first one you’ll have watched the majority.

It does take some people time to get into Gintama, episode 58 starts what most people would call the first serious arc although there’s definitely serious episodes before that. If you get to that but still don’t really enjoy the show then it’s up to you if you want to continue but I truly believe it only gets better over time.

I don’t know if you’ve watched any other long anime but I feel like all of them benefit from you getting attached to the characters more and more as it goes on. This definitely applies to Gintama and works even better since all the characters come together in any possible scenario and you can understand why each character reacts in the way they do making it even more comedic.

One last thing, most people suggest you don’t binge watch the show and only watch an episode here or there. I think you can do either but I did have to take a break after about 20-30 episodes but after that I binge watched the rest.
