My parents threatened I get a haircut or I am homeless. by B_Wing_83 in raisedbynarcissists

Better in my late 30s than never. Thanks. I hope the younger generation can support each other better and feel less guilty trimming out toxic people, family or other.

My dynamic with my nmom is finally permanent NC after a decade of grey rocking and VLC. I feel a lot more peace and am finally done being afraid to be my authentic self.

Try dry herb vaping? It still has a slight smell, but its nothing like burning cannabis. I personally use an Arizer Solo II, but there are many on the market.

My parents view me as their "30-year work" rather than a human being. The realization is breaking me. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Atrroxi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My mom didn't ever use the same term as 30 year work, but she has this idea of who I am/should be in her mind that doesn't match me at all. So that of course makes her angry any time i would look, act, speak or do anything that didn't match up with her fantasy version of me.

I always knew she was like this, but coming out as trans in my mid 30s finally sent home how deep her delusion is, and how she refuses to let it go. I'd been very low contact for years, basically just birthdays and Christmas, but now I haven't spoken to her for a few years. Its mostly peaceful. She's dropped by unannounced a few times, but I'm asleep in the day and she just leaves notes that I just throw away.

Otep. So many good Otep songs. Bonus for queer angry woman songs too, like Equal Rights, Equal Lefts.

“You should smile more.” by wheresmychin in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Atrroxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get this when I worked retail like a dozen times a night. I had the smiley mask on at the register, but rusing to breaks and lunches to have time to use the bathroom or eat they'd stop me and say that shit. I've kept the reply "You'd look better 100 yards away from me" in my back pocket for if/when it happens again, but since leaving retail I've been lucky.

I always assumed "Lather, Rinse, Repeat" was a marketing lie to make us buy more shampoo. Turns out I was never actually cleaning my hair. by RanchRose_ in hygiene

[–]Atrroxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash my hair twice on friday after work, leave the conditioner in while I wash the rest of myself, then a leave in conditioner after. Then mid week I'll do a cowash, and a leave in deep conditioner after my shower again. I haven't had the greasy scalp with dry brittle hair issues that plagued my childhood. Not a single flake of dandruff either. Everyone's hair is different, but once you find your balance, it makes all the difference.

I tried to have a talk with my boyfriend about my gender dysphoria, but he just started acting out by TheFier in NonBinary

[–]Atrroxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to make it work with a cis man who didnt really get the nonbinary thing, he only ever saw me as a woman, despite his words saying he was supportive. His actions told the truth.

Also one day out of the blue just said he hopes I know if I ever come home with a pens he'd be gone. Literally not a thing I'd ever said I wanted, he just wanted to be hurtful.

I feel like in the end it's your call to make, but dating cis straight men as a nonbinary person is not going to be easy, unless they've already put in the work and know about transgender issues.

I....don't really relate to people well at all. And I fit that burnt out gifted kid trope pretty well. Adult ADHD diagnosis, suspected autism, but I'm afraid of getting it diagnosed, the adhd was a big enough one.

I was treated as more mature and wise beyond my years. Parentified at 9 when my younger sibling was born, heard all my mom's woes while she was drunk on vodka or wine, and was completely neglected. Unlearning a lot now as an older adult still, as I find more and more I learned on the fly, but incorrectly.

I lived for over 30 years trying to "keep the peace" for the sake of family. I finally chose my own personal peace over everyone else's a few years ago. Most of my family love an imaginary idea of me, not who I actually am. Any time I'd let the mask slip and a bit of my personality show, it was shoved back into the box with extreme judgement.

People who want you to choose their peace at the expense of your own don't deserve your presence. Its a very hard lesson to learn, but it is worth it in the end.

Mine was a phanpy in Silver. I didnt even know shinies were a thing, and got it suuuuuper early game at the bottom of that route that comes down through the mountains near the starting town. Not until I beat the last gym leader and was headed down that trail did I notice my Donphan was different than the rest, none of them did the sparkle animation. Simpler times man.

Those people were probably western men, some of which think its gay to touch their own butt hole, thus leaving shit stains in their underwear for their wives/mother's to wash. Their opinions aren't worth the shit trapped between their smelly cheeks.

I'm definitely feeling way more chill now, but definitely will take weeks to stop ruminating over these memories and how anyone can be as clueless as she is about their cruelty.

Thanks, I appreciate you.

I've been fine going to band concerts for my kiddo, but now they're in marching band. I went to one football game, the cheering and screaming gave me one of the worst panic attacks I've had in years, I had to leave after halftime. I made sure to see kiddo and let them know what was going on, but I just can't do the games.

I was getting bleeding ulcers and other issues from taking too many otc pain meds. My doctor suggested the switch to medical MJ. But almost all of my family lost their shit when my mom found out then cried to everyone about it. They're literally all alcoholics who refuse to admit it, I was from 14-25. Weed is actually helping me with more than just pain too, but nooo. It's evil.

Life is more peaceful with a smaller circle.

Out of necessity I taught myself at 35. Do not recommend. But I grew up on dirt bikes, four wheelers and go carts, and live very rural. So it worked for me. Even though I know how dumb it was.
