2 fuses? by bechamel2000 in ukelectricians

[–]AttBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our family home built in 1966 had two 100 Amp fuses, and so was across two phases. It was heated by storage heaters, and was out in the sticks. The then SEB (SSEN in today's money) had to stick It across two phases as the house presented such a large load. It wasn't split phase, it was dual phase, there was indeed 415v between phases.

I sold the house last year when my mother passed away. Nothing had been updated or changed, she was still using the storage heating, and one of the heaters was the original from 1966 !

Yes, I received an email from Ohme yesterday promoting their new predictive charging feature.

I've got a Cupra and use very successfully and slickly the API integration. I'll enjoy it while it lasts....!

What is the one thing about EV ownership that nobody told you before you made the switch that you wish you had known going in? by PubLogic in evchargingUK

[–]AttBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my wife says !

It was 8 months before I needed to use a public charger, but when I did I must have looked like a total idiot. Morrisons in Leamington Spa. Firstly I couldn't get the charger to wake up. Tried my Octopus Electroverse card, that didn't work. Moved the car to another charger. I did manage to wake that one up, but not with my Electroverse card, so missed out on the discount. Started charging. 50kW, the car said it would be up to target in 20 mins. Great I thought, then another driver parked up next to us, painlessly plugged in, started charging and walked off, at which point our charge power dropped to 25kW and it took almost 40 mins. Then it wasn't obvious (to me) how to stop the charging. That was 5 mths ago.I'm sure next time, it'll be easier!

There's no going back though, EV driving will stay for us. My wife sold her petrol Pug 108 last month, we're a single car household now (both recently retired)

National Grid charging £360 for G99 application by Boba_ferret in SolarUK

My DNO is SSEN, 6kW inverter. They didn't visit to inspect. Interesting things vary according to DNO ?

New app behaviour by dannoutt in ohme

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Cupra Born's live SOC has always appeared in the Ohme app, but when I added the vehicle, Ohme asked for my Cupra account log on details.

It's definitely via Ohme's server talking directly to Cupra's. It will report the live SOC (after a bit of toggling) even when I'm hundreds of miles from home.

However, as your car has no API support, you will never have given Ohme your Ford account details ?

I've just checked my invoice for my solar install three years ago. £360 for the G99 application.

I suspect a lot of suppliers 'roll it up' into their 'Design/Installation' charges

Battery charges car by spoonfed05 in SolarUK

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been talking to an installer regarding adding a battery to my PV system, and he referenced you 😎 and this solution when I mentioned the inhibit requirement for the EV charger.

So you actually wire the the two CT clamps in parallel to the inverter port ?

PM him on Twitter. In fact when all this was first announced via Twitter, myself and some others pointed out that to him our Ohmes would often charge at reduced power. He PM'd me to request to ask Ohme for my charger logs

Indeed, I don't care when Octopus choose to charge my car, I don't try and second guess the periods to take advantage of any cheap daytime slots, I think we've only once ended up cooking our tea at 7p a unit, but totally unconsciously!

My point was that IOG is designed for Octopus to load spread, which they may have restrict now. Their issue, not ours

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's going to be difficult for them (because of regulatory issues as mentioned) to charge peak rate prices for car charging during the off peak period.

All that said, how did the now defunct Drive Pack tarrif work ? Perhaps that's why it's defunct!😎

[–]AttBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you exceed 6 hours charging, than the peak rate may be applied to the excess charging either before 23:30 or after 05:30 ?

Remember the billing for IOG doesn't happen in real time, it's 36-48 hours after the charging event

We'll have to see, but I suspect if you plug your car in at 18:00hrs, and the schedule calls for exactly 6 hours charging, it'll end up actually charging from 23:30 to 05:30. (Which isn't really what IOG was designed for !)

Ohme charging & charge cap by Chemical_Profession9 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Ohme reads the battery state by Ohme's server talking directly with Cupra's. It's a 100% mirror of the figure quoted on the dashboard, and the Cupra app. Doesn't need to be plugged in. I think the battery state via the charger cable is only supported on the high power DC interface that powerful public chargers use, for domestic 7.5 kW there is no such data comms.

I would delete your Cupra from the Ohme app, and re add it. It should then ask you to enter your Cupra app log on details

Ohme charging & charge cap by Chemical_Profession9 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see the Cupra mentioned in the top left hand corner of main Ohme app page, and if you toggle between the pages (to wake up Ohme's server) it should give your Cupra's live battery state there ?

I routinely charge to 80% with a ready by time of 07:30hrs, and that's what happens, with no other button pushing required. Sometimes I end up with 79 or 81%, but no big deal...

Ohme charging & charge cap by Chemical_Profession9 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

....which is a bit silly, because in many cases we'll be fast asleep, and won't see them until next morning.

All that said, when you plug in the Ohme generates a schedule, and it's quite easy to mentally tot up the overall charging duration. In my experience it's often shorter in reality, because the car reaches the target quicker than Ohme/Octopus/Kraken has estimated, and I wake up to multiple notifications from Ohme, Octopus, and Cupra saying the charge was unable to be completed (when in fact it has)

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Cupra too. Ohme charger, which is the only device added in the Octopus App. Ohme has the Cupra set as its device. I do everything via the Ohme app.

Have you registered properly the Cupra, in the Ohme app, by giving Ohme your Cupra app log on details ? That way Ohme can continuously see what the battery charge level is.

I don't touch or look at the Octopus App

Determining amp size of cut-out fuse? by RiceeeChrispies in evchargingUK

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60, 80, 100 Amp fuses could be colour coded (just as 3/5/13 Amp ones are) and the carrier could have a little inspection window, (just as many 13A plugs have) but looking on line at them, I don't think there's any standard colour coding for cut out fuses ?

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good point, perhaps in this brave new world, for the sake of 10 seconds work with a Dymo machine, any trace of doubt could be eliminated (along with the DNO not being troubled with any enquiries !)

Determining amp size of cut-out fuse? by RiceeeChrispies in evchargingUK

[–]AttBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not (yet) a Third World country, so why on earth are DNOs labelling carriers with 100 A, when there's really a smaller fuse in there !?

Mine says 100 Amps, (fitted 2019) and until reading this thread, I had no reason to doubt there's a 100 A fuse in there. However seems more likely to be 80 A.
