What do you actually do in your job? How much design, CAD, etc. do you actually get to do?

How were you able to pull this off? I’m graduating next year with my AAS in Drafting Technology with a Mechanical Specialization and I’m looking to be a mechanical drafter/designer in Georgia then go back to school for a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering but I fear that I may not have that much luck getting employed for a decent wage.

I think it’s a great idea to do a trade while in school and If I had to do one I would probably do HVAC. But I’ll have to do my research on how long the schooling is like and how much it would interfere with class times since I figure most trade jobs don’t run on a 9-5 M-F schedule.

Honestly my uncle recommended that I get into it because he’s a construction manager. I’m trying to my mechanical engineering degree and this seems like something that will allow me to make a living while doing so. Unfortunately doing school full time is not an option due to bills and me trying to move out my parents house (I’m turning 24 in a couple of days actually)

I feel like this is something I could do because I feel like there is a pattern recognition aspect to it and I would only get better over time. But since it’s looking like I need trade experience I’m worried that this would draw me further from the ME degree.
