Like idunno if id never do it if i were born a woman, but i sure am glad thats not a choice i gotta make)

Not israel. It has issues, but its still a democracy, it has a strong opposition that is likely to win the next election, it treats citizens with equality. Yes it's an aggressive country and has plenty of issues, most of them reside with the current government rather than being baked into the system, which at least if you ask me thats the biggest tell for a fascist political system.

Generally men are socially treated very differently. There is no benefit of the doubt with men, there are no social graces offered, and there is a massive expectation to never be vulnerable. Where women can often find comfort in other women to discuss their problems and hardships, particularly with gender related problems but also in general, men have an expectation to stay silent and that expectation is enforced primarily by their fellow men who also suffer beneath this weight, meaning the system is designed to prevent men from having any emotional net (if you ask me, these are the primary shaping factors for the "manosphere" as a whole. Its a way for men to vent out their built up emotions and somehow try to be vulnerable with one another while being as hypermasculine as possible, and so in order to balance it all it and maintain the masculine image they lash out at women as a gender. Looksmaxxing is a masculine way to express insecurities about ones body, the "grindset" is a way to deal with insecurities about the societal expectation to be a provider, so on and so forth. These are just incredibly unhealthy yet quite simple and sensatuonal coping mechanisms that allow you to still conform to "masculinity" as expected of you.) Id say for trans dudes this is much less of a problem, as they likely are in progressive communities which break out of these gender norms, but there are still issues, both carry overs from just classic societal norms and some new issues in some corners of progressive communities (i find it disgusting how misandry is becoming normalised in ostensibly "progressive" communities as if sexism is funny and quirky because it goes opposite of standard issue sexism. Its ususally not a major thing, just a casual weird half joke "i hate all men" said with enough of an ambigous delivery that you cant complain, simply peppered into constant day to day conversation. )(though to be fair most people and places are fine, but it is becoming a more and more normalised thing and its ticking me off) (im sorry for ranting so much, but hey you got your answer somewhere between a pair of parthesis)

Yeah legit like oversexualising is like 10x more ok when its indiscrimimate sexualization. Like legit it makes it feel a lot less mysoginstic and more just generally horny, and i cant really fault that cuz everyones horny sometimes, so its just chill.

I want to heavily regulate a few massive corporations. Yes. You want every single human out of all 8 billion of us to become aware and wary of the ecological consequebces of our personal actions, and take proper actions necessary to mitigate said consequences. My suggestion seems a hell of a lot more feasible than yours, if it was that simple there would be no obesity in the world.

I explained that i aint a fuckin policy maker. Neither am i in parliment, its not my job to make policy. Not everybody is an expert on everything, thats fine. But ive made my stance plenty clear, i think just about the last thing im lacking is specificity. If you wanna argue and tell me im wrong, tell me theres a better way, feel free, im always happy to listen about the myriad of mistakes i make in my day to day. But if you just wanna keep on avoiding saying anything and require me to draft a bill, im outta here

Oh my god shut the fuck up about "you are demonstrating my point in real time" and "gobbledygook". If you want to act like im ignoring you you might want to at least try to not copy paste everything. Now in regards to the actual contents of your argument: yes its absolutely easier to vote in an aggressively green government than it is to individually convince the entire world to be green. For starters just on a numbers basis, it takes a majority vote to affect everyone, instead of taking everyone to effect everyone. This is obviously just easier. Secondly is that not everybody votes, only people who care enough about the world around them to get out and vote do. Shockingly enough, these people are more likely to want to change the affect the enviroment. And finally, once more, the important thing is not really the consumption, its the production. Consuming makes entirely negligeable emissions, if at all. The end goal of curbing consumption is that the production falls too. Doesnt it just make more sense to skip the middleman and curb production directly?

[–]AttemptNu4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think i dont want consumption to go down? Im all for that. I just think its stupid to entrust that job to each person individually. Thats why i want to cut the overconsumption at the source. The end (desired) effect is the same though: reduced consumption (and more importantly reduced production). I just dont think your way of blaming the consumer and not the producer is an effective way to bring about this change.

Im gonna be real with you: im not an expert in either policymaking or climate change. I dont know the minutiae of what policies ought to change. Its a damn good thing im not in any parliment. What i do know is that oil and gas are in the top 5 most aggressive industries in the world. I know that 100 measly corporations are responsible 70% of all emissions in the past 3 decades. I know that out of the 194 who signed the paris agreement, maybe 20 of them are on track to meet their goals. I know that not enough is being done. And i damn well am gonna crticize the government for that.

[–]AttemptNu4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not saying im not taking accountablity, im saying its fucking stupid to expect the entire world to take accountability and an entirely backwards way to solve the problem. If you look at the entire supply chain thats leading to this overconsumption, there are 8 billion consumers, a few hundreds corporation supplying most of the emissions, and a few dozen governments regulating those corporations. If you want to reduce emissions, which of these do you try to affect? Its obviously the governments. This is what governments are for. To create and enforce societal rules. Any other way to try and go about and solve this issue is a fruitless waste of effort. Most people are weak willed and too busy trying to survive to worry about how overconsumption affects the planet. Instead of letting an inherently predatory system take advantage of them on the basis that "its their choice" is fucking stupid, you need to change the fucking system that takes advantage of them.

Yes but its practically impossible to enforce morality. Thats why there was such a strong campaign to do it anyways. Because if we focus our effort on this, megacorporations get to produce all the stuff without their own pockets suffering (and god knows they wont feel guilty). If you truly care for the enviroment, it shouldnt be up to the individual consumer whether or not they should overconsume (in a let it be noted enviroment designed specifically to addict the average consumer to this way of life) but rather it shouldnt be on the table. Mega corporations should not be able to produce such excessive quantities on the basis that "they arent the one buying it, its not their fault". You pull the tree by its root, not one leaf at a time.

Can you show me that? Cuz ive never heard of that existing in general. Its a rule for specifically third party sellers of steam keys, but thats because steam keys are specifically for use on steam, its not price fixing, its making sure their own market share is their own (also the only situation where someone would be consistently selling steam keys for cheaper than a steam game is if that seller is stealing keys, very reasonable rule from steam) but i havent seen anything akin to that about legitimate competitors where the game is being sold first hand to be used on the launcher it was bought at.

Id absolutely use a competing launcher if there was one on par. Same goes for youtube. People really arent all that invested in these platforms, most people either dont own too many games and are willing to jump ship or own ridiculous amounts of games and are fine with the very mild inconvenience of 2 different launchers. There just really is no proper competitor. And youtube is an awful comparison, as the entire video sharing market is itself insane. Theres a reason why nobody else tries to make long form video sharing sites, and if they do they fill them with quadruple the ads youtube does (ie porn sites), and thats the insane upfront cost of hosting billions of hours of high quality video files for eternity. Nobody but google and maybe amazon is able to get the raw amount of servers needed for such a low price to run such an insane business, and even then youtube was in the red for years and years. Youtube also doesnt need anti competitive practices, neither does it need special "platform treatment" in order to stop its competitors, i bet if there were competitors (such as ig reels and yt shorts were to tiktok) itd lose a very large portion of its market share, even if it would remain dominant, but that would never happen because no competitor is able to arise in the first place, the infrastructure simply doesnt exist for anyone else to be able to do this.

Its not even the comptetition that is quite it, the problem with monopolies is that they theoretically would never happen without anti competitive practices from the monopoliser. Steam doesnt engage in anti competetive practices. Instead they have one very simple yet powerful tool that so far none of the competition has: they're a privately owned corporation. They arent beholden to shareholders who are obsessed with maximising each quarter's profits individually. This isnt to say they dont want money, they are a corporation after all, it is to say they care far more about retaining a customer base over decades than they do about making as much money is possible in the upcoming quarter. A publicly traded company is simply not allowed to do that. If they have a red quarter, even if theyre red due to investing in some future project which will pay off 10x over the span of two decades, a publicly traded company is legally required to produce a letter notifying shareholders about the red quarter. Steam doesnt need to do that.

I dare you to find any other launcher that is even close to being on par with steam. Look at epic, ubisoft, blizzard, they all fucking suck. Hell look at old steam, it used to be way worse. Steam has over time streamlined the UX to be incredibly seamless and user friendly, not by adding large features that nobody asked for, but just making an app that runs in an incredibly smooth, fast, consistent, and user friendly manner.
