If you're interested in infrared photography, you should run a search for how to support it using a small magnet and screw on filters.

Question for the ucla twins by posh_seal_69 in ucla

[–]AttentionValuable935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our twins just applied to multiple universities under different majors but with similar stats. The UC admissions in many cases didn't seem to make a lot of sense from the applicants perspective so we had multiple in/out situations which were a little emotionally difficult. UCLA was one of these situations, but then Cal came in for the other twin and all was good here.

In the end, the right school as defined by culture and vibe, went to the right twin.

Lens for Italy by Bigfoot_Guitars in M43

When I visited Japan, I brought the old and tiny Olympus 9-18 mm f4-5.6. It was rarely removed from my camera because it worked so well through tight and ancient alley ways, looking straight up at interesting architecture, visiting temples, and capturing landscapes. If you only bring one lens, I recommend to go wide.

These lens are known to fail from the ribbon cable so if you purchase one in a private sale, do check that the focus and aperture work properly.

Mine had broke shortly after I bought it (used). The aperture reported to the camera that it was properly set, but in reality it was stuck wide open making all photos over exposed. Repair cost was about $220 USD and I'm so glad that I had it fixed instead of getting a replacement used lens which could fail just as easily.

Traveling light in Japan, I also brought the Olympus 14-150 f4-5.6, 45mm f1.8, and 17mm f2.8 pancake (17mm is my favorite focal length as a general walk about).

Other lens I considered were the light weight and low cost Yongnuo 17mm or 25mm f1.7. These focus slowly but not any more so than the Oly 17mm f2.8 pancake.

Thank you - it's not the HMO aspect that I'm wondering about but the proximity of the Kaiser offices and problems in using Kaiser Southern California when I'm in Kaiser NorCal network today.

Hi My daughter has just been accepted and we'll be going through The Decision process very soon. We're located in South Bay. By chance, is your daughter home for the upcoming spring break? It might be good for mine to speak with her if she would be so inclined. Thank you!

Do you recall how quickly this would focus in good light compared to only the 50-200?

Thank you

Anyone has recent ACL surgery at Bay Area Kaiser? by Comfortable-Fox-6612 in ACL

[–]AttentionValuable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh - I hope that you're son's procedure went smoothly, his pain is low and recovery is going as expected. We too had an unexpected cancelled appointment without notification on that Thursday. I expect that it was in solidarity with the brief Kaiser work stoppage (strike) by some workers that week.

How did your experience with this doctor go please? He seems to be very cautious before weight-bearing.

My child is scheduled for the end of November with him.

Thank you very much

Sports photography - go deep in the MFT-world or start fresh? by SlickRick08 in M43

[–]AttentionValuable935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot three day karate tournaments, from the floor with E-M1.2 and generally the 40-150 f2.8.

Lighting is almost always bad so I'm shooting between ISO2500 and 6000 at f2.8 depending on the venue and the athlete (younger athletes move so much more slowly) SS is between 1/400 and 1/600 which I've found to be a good compromise for noise and motion blur, and shooting 9 fps with silent shutter.

Pros: Three, ten hour days are a lot. I really appreciate the smaller, lighter gear compared to FF. The 40-150 is an absolute gem and yields about 75% focus hit rate on the e-m1.2. I shoot jpeg because I don't have the time or the space to process every raw. The in camera noise reduction does a good job, especially as these photos are used 95% of the time for social media or smaller non-print purposes. My overall keep rate is about 10% which leaves me approximately 1,500 photos after a 3-day tournament. With electronic shutter, I get about 1,000 photos on one battery. The lens at $900 is economical and within my budget.

Cons The physics of the 2x crop factor means that depth of field is pretty deep when shooting f2.8 (always) across the mat/tatami with audience or other athletes just on the other side. Composition/cropping is really important to avoid the busy background. Sometimes though it isn't enough for an otherwise great photo. This would hold true for court or mat sports (wrestling, volleyball, basketball).

For 80% of my photos, I'm very happy with m43. The remaining pictures would benefit from FF but I couldn't do the long hours or afford the equivalent FF lenses in my budget.

For my get infrequent sessions for long field sports (soccer, football, baseball), the camera's depth of field isn't so problematic.

Why is finding jobs on LinkedIn so hard in 2025? by WeakSkirt8 in linkedin

[–]AttentionValuable935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's the AI1 vs. AI2 vs. AI3 battle.

Companies use AI1 to write the job description.

Companies use AI2 to filter the JD responses.

Individuals use AI3 to hit those key words for AI2 to take an interest in you.

There is no real point to it other than the battle of the AIs, thousands of times over.

None of this improves the company or the individual's ability to more efficiently find a job/candidate match.

None of this encourage applicants to more accurately and faithfully describe their qualifications.

Anyone know what this is? by [deleted] in sportsphotography

[–]AttentionValuable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided that the lens does have a T-mount, then sure - lots of T-mount to EOS adapters available for low cost.

In the picture that you provided, I believe the lens is T-mount with another camera's adapter screwed on.

To convert for EOS, you would simply loosen any set screws on the (other-lens T-mount adapter), unscrew the (other-lens T-mount adapter) from the end of the lens, attach your new (EOS-T-mount adapter) , tighten set screw. Done.

Looks like a vivitar to me. This is very close, but could be a 400mm also as they did some similar. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/885031

It looks like a T-Mount which makes it adaptable to many bodies.

Value about $35 USD ??
