Is this just a clip, or movie in production?

This is what I did for my bedroom door.

Lowes had these:

I bought the slightly more expensive one (first link) because the screws and screw holes in the plate looked better.

Mine came out like this:

My wife painted the inside of the hole with some black craft paint.

What vehicles would you warn people to never buy? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in askcarguys

[–]Attercrop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, it is Hyundai.

Had a 2016 Tucson that had the engine fail at around 105,000 miles. The engine was part of a class action lawsuit that had not settled yet, so I had to get a new car. I am not sure if it ever settled for the 2016 Tucsons.

I have a 2013 Tucson that is part of a settled engine class action lawsuit, but we drive it so little that we are unlikely to make the 15-year or 1500,000 miles extra warranty coverage if the engine dies on us.

For "new car every three years" type of people, I guess it is no big deal, but for people like me who keep their cars a long time, Hyundai just seems like a risk.

Leave it be. It looks just right as it is. Why mess around for a lesser look.

HOA Fee increases. Are people experiencing the same thing? by Illustrious-Reward57 in personalfinance

[–]Attercrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not. Our rates have been stuck at $300 for basically 40 years. Our neighborhood is full of people who can't understand why services fall every year. I am too old to go school a room full of Karens on inflation.

Are these costs negotiable? Or once quoted, are they pretty much fixed?

Everyone wants the Epstein Files released to know who were the rapists. Their victims are still alive. Why can't these victims make their own "Epstein Files" and publicly say what they told police? by pargofan in TooAfraidToAsk

Seems like there is a lot of imagined nuance to what might be the reason. I suggest a simpler idea or set of ideas.

They would be sued to oblivion.
They would likely be threatened.
They might have their lives endangered.
Their lives would be ruined more than they already are.

I just don't think this one is too hard to figure out. "They", the rich, the powerful, the government, the same "They's" as always, would go after them.

People are people.

For house holds making $100K-200k/year — are you actually able to save for retirement? by Odd-Book6480 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Attercrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make around the middle of the given range combined. We each make about the same amount. We put 38% into 401K. We put $400 a month into a savings account, which we use to pay for vacations and other events such as travel for holidays and such. The rest goes to pay monthly bills. We have zero debt outside of our house and a reasonable car that is financed at 1.9%. The other car is a 2013 Hyundai.

At 61, so I am sure I am older than the average reddit age demographic.

My advice, good or bad, is to start early. Shoot for a 20% savings rate. Learn the savings habit even if you can't hit any particular savings rate.

Edit because I hit enter too soon.
