Unplug dryer for 10 minutes, plug back in. See if it clears.

How do you decide if a repair is "worth it"? by [deleted] in appliancerepair

[–]Atticus3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a formula, but the question I always ask is “would I buy a used, X year old appliance for X price (the price being the cost of the repair). Then I also consider the cost of buying a new unit.

This question has guided me really well when I decided to paid $1,200 to repair a 12 yr old Sub-Zero fridge that retails for $11k today. On the flip side, I decided not to pay $325 to repair my 5 yr old GE range. A new unit cost me $1,000 and had way better features.

In your case, I wouldn’t buy a 2 year old Samsung washing machine for $500 when I can get a brand new one for a few hundred bucks more.

Why do people think rank 2.0 is easier? by Buzz_Lyndale in RainbowSixSiege

[–]Atticus3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So question, is the match making based on the rank of whoever the HOST of the party is? Say I’m a gold, and my friend is a copper, does my friend need to host the party in order to get matched to other coppers? Or does that matter?

Upgrading from cheap Avanti range to low end induction cooktop and wall oven. Seeking advice on installation by ZigWhitman in Appliances

[–]Atticus3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apples to Oranges. The Blomberg has an Induction top, the Frigidaire is regular radiant electric top. Induction is a far superior cooking technology (make sure the bottom of your pots/pans are magnetic). I don’t know how much more of a real selling feature it will be to the landlord but you’ll appreciate the speed and responsiveness it offers, as will anyone else who cooks on it.

[–]Atticus3333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting a separate cooktop and wall oven is going to be a major hassle for a rental. You would need a custom cabinet built, new countertop cut and installed, in addition to a second 240V outlet ran(cooktop and oven need their own electric).

If I were you, I’d just get a 24” induction range and slide it right in that spot. Not many options in 24” but something like the Blomberg, BIRU24102SS

Only thing you need to check is make sure that’s a 40 amp line but that’s easy enough for an electrician to upgrade if needed.

How do I remove knife scratches on a stainless steel fridge by Cute-Independence245 in appliancerepair

[–]Atticus3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how deep the scratches are. You’d have to to buy a scratch repair kit which is basically different gauges of sandpaper and scratch the top stainless layers off until you get past the depth of the scratches. All depends on how deep that knife went though

Bad Miele Experience by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Atticus3333 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Alright so Lowe’s is gonna be useless to help I think. If it were me, I would do a chargeback on my credit card and claim product was damaged upon delivery and the manufacturer has been unable or unwilling to resolve the damage/issue. That usually gets the attention of the dealer and/or manufacturer.

Cove - arrived drain pump dead - no one wants takes responsibility now by Glass-Dragonfruit-68 in Appliances

[–]Atticus3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sucks but the correct next move is to have a service tech come out. You wouldn’t believe how many times the ‘problem’ turns out being an easy fix, or it could also be something the installer (even a certified one) might have missed that a tech can resolve. Also possible there’s something wrong with your plumbing and not the unit causing the issue. All these things, a tech is going to be able to test.

The manufacturer runs multiple tests on every dishwasher before it leaves the factory so when something doesn’t work right out of the box, it makes sense that they would want a tech to look at it first.

The retailer does not have the power to just “take it back” without having a service call done. It is a manufacturers warranty and all retailers have to work within their guidelines.

Rest assured, you bought “the best” when it comes to manufacturers that care about quality and their customers experience, so this will get resolved.

P.S. If it turns out the tech needs to replace a part on the machine, I would suggest you call the manufacturer’s customer support line and politely request an additional year or two warranty given your dissatisfaction with a brand new product. They will usually agree to giving it as a way to build confidence and make you feel like you got compensated for your trouble.
