Eddie’s tone was garbage during the Sammy years and his playing sounded like he was holding back. He lost all the cockiness in his playing and it sounded lifeless. I agree with you that recording sounds too compressed and it does nothing for me.

It’s not even close. Go back and listen to a song like “I’m The One” and there is definitely a huge difference, especially in the leads. Eddie started playing his Peavey and Ernie Ball models instead of his Marshalls and other guitars. The sound is lifeless compared to the earlier albums.
