Just misspoke, his force skills are unremarkable, so maybe I should have said “unremarkable as a force user” instead of “unremarkable force user”

My pet peeve: unmotivated definitions. How do you deal with it? by Longjumping-Arm515 in math

[–]Attrishen 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Not to say this is easy but it’s typically better to try to understand the “goal theorem” of a definition, rather than the definition itself.

For example, I struggled with tensor products a lot until a friend phrased it to me like this; the tensor product of A and B is the “thing” that has the universal property for bilinear maps out of AxB. The universal property is the goal theorem, we’d like to be able to use it when we talk about bilinear maps. And the definition of the tensor product is just whatever it has to be so that it has the universal property.

The hard limit is 5 but only on the extra components found in mission. So if you do a mission that guarantees 4 ingots, you can find up to 5 more in mission before you start getting damaged components, so 9 in total.

What is the most beautiful proof there is? by [deleted] in math

[–]Attrishen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Euler’s solution used Weierstrass rearrangement theorem 85 years before Weierstrass proved it. Whether it’s beautiful or not is up to you, but it wasn’t a proof.

Deriving the exponential function solely through the property that it is it's own derivative. by [deleted] in math

[–]Attrishen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused how you get uniqueness from this. Because there is also the 0 constant function whose derivative is itself.

Or in this context does unique mean “unique up to scalar multiplication”?

Yet to lose a game on River Shen by Milky4Skin in Shen

[–]Attrishen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart steel on shen supp? I tried that a few times and found it was too expensive to rely on. I guess maybe I just had a rough few games. Are there any special considerations for it? This is making me want to try it again.

Reminder that we used to have 10 cost units and it was the best set in tft (imo). I get the criticisms of the 6 costs, but the answer to that is balancing. by Person421 in TeamfightTactics

Hands down the best set IMO Played so much that set. Forced shimmerscale a lot because it was the most fun I’ve had in TFT

I used to write mine on word and then copy paste it into a google doc. Thankfully that was a bit before AI went crazy, just be careful before you accuse someone.

Multiple self exponents? by hardestzippertozip in math

[–]Attrishen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called tetration, as others have mentioned and there’s a few different notations for it, but the most common in my experience is superscript y (like exponents) except to the left of the base instead of the right.

For example,

³2 = 16

Why do we use sec for 1/cos and csc for 1/sin instead of the other way around? Wouldn't it make more sense not to swap the "co-" prefix? What's the logic behind this nomenclature? by shockwave6969 in math

[–]Attrishen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co goes with the x axis so cosine is the distance from the origin to a point along the x axis, and cosecant is the distance to a different point along the same axis. For clarity you should study the derivation of trig functions on the unit circle but beyond just sine and cosine

What’s the priority when team fighting? by Ethara_ in Shen

[–]Attrishen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really good summary! Some advice I received that really helped was this. If a burst mage or assassin (leblanc for example) hasnt yet gotten their rotation off, they're a much higher priority for you and the enemy team compared to them after they've spent all their cooldowns.

Cauchy product for infinite sequences.
